Can anyone tell me what works to remove the plastic coating from the edge?

Thanks
Tom

I found that Carburetor Cleaner (spray can type) will soften it enough to scrape off with a razor blade. It didn't seem to hurt the finish on the blade, but I was careful not to get much on it. I sprayed some on a rag and just rubbed the area with the plastic coating.

The primary bevel of the hawk head is coated with clear plastic (looks something like plasti-dip). This appears to have been applied before the final finish was put on, as the final finish ends at the edge of the clear plastic. The hawk was then sharpened which exposed the edge, so the actual edge is not coated.

I'm not sure why this was done, but it appears to be part of the production process.

If you have enough time, wrap it in a WD-40 soaked rag for a week or two. It will soften it up quit a bit.
