I've been checking the SOG Tomcat 3.0 Knife in three variations: S95SL, S95CF & S95 with prices varying widely: $236, $176 & $137.

Of course the higher end ones have Carbon Fiber handles and in the case of S95SL CF in the blade.

What are your thoughts on the Tomcat 3.0 series in general in terms of utility, fit & finish, etc.?

Are the higher priced ones worth it?

Your thoughts on SOG's Arc-Lock?

Does the lack of a pocket clip bother you?

Right now I'm leaning towards the S95CF with CF handles since it gives me better grip. I'm not yet convinced on the CF/VG-10 blade one.

I really like my TomCat 3 S95. With a 3.75” blade and 6.5 ounces it is a big folder. IMHO a pocket clip wouldn’t serve this knife well.
The Vulcan is a very similar knife that saves you an ounce and a half with it’s glass reinforced handle and a 3.5” blade. It does come with a pocket clip. Both are Japanese made out of VG-10 steel.
I’m very happy with the quality of the TomCat 3. Both knives can be tuned to handle very quickly. They’re not bad straight out of the box.

I have been looking at the Sog Titanium FatCat. My Sog Tomcat is sweet and HEAVY DUTY.
It also has been a very good investment.

S9 - Sogwinder-2 (I thought it was a Sog TomCat 2) :o

This maybe the first good knife I bought that got me started. ($50.00)

Did you pick up a S.O.G. yet RamZar?

Not one of those Tomcat folders yet.

Hope to have one of the SOG Tomcat 3.0 Knife S95SL folders with the half CF half VG-10 blade and CF handles.

I'm still unsure as I like the Tomcat, Fatcat and Stingray. I did watch a video on their new SOG Flashback and you might as well call it a auto.
In fact it's faster than many auto's.

I'm still leaning toward the Fatcat. I have my Tanto blades covered, and the Fatcat looks like it's blade is made the same as the Tomcat.

I recommend the base model w/the ruber-like Kraton handles. They give good, solid grip in rain, snow, fog, soaking wet or with mud on them. Carbon Fiber is light and strong and fancy, but not as functional as the Kraton IMHO. All-in-all, the Tomcat 3.0 is the next best thing to an auto w/o the legal restriction or scare-factor in public use. SOG sells a solid and functional MOLLE sheath and you can also pick up a few custom-made leather sheath's almost magical how tight the fit and finish is on the 1's and 2's. If the Original had a thumbstud i'd rec it but the necessity of a two-hand opening is a slight disadvantage today.

btw- i just got the SPEC ELITE II Auto a few weeks ago and it is wet-panties hot! Kicks so hard it kicked outta my hand a couple times. Bout it at the Cutlery Shoppe Online; i buy there a lot and they give great price and customer service.

Anyway- good luck to you and stick with SOG - i have for nearly 30 years and never been disappointed!

Greetings!
Hypermole, that Sogwinder II is one of my favorite SOG folders! (It's little brother, Sogwinder I, makes a fine EDC when looking for something more pocket friendly!) Those first gen SOG folders are tough to beat for strength/durability and you stole that for $50!
SOG makes some nice folders now, but they are very different from those early models.
