My dad's friend gave me one he had in his safe. Can anyone tell me more info about this knife? I've never been a fan of SOG but this knife is pretty nice. He said he got it a long time ago.

Not sure about the Tomcat but I've had a Sogwinder for probably 20 years that's been through hell and back. I believe the Tomcat is just a larger version. It was my first "good" knife. Very tough knife. I still have it in the collection and look on fondly although I really wish I would have cared for it better in the early days. It has some blade play that only comes from misuse and no fault of Sog. The blade is a bit thick for my liking on such a small folder these days but I still think its a beast of a knife and a workhorses. Enjoy it.

Edit: I've considered contacting Sog to see if I could send it in to be tweaked a bit. Not sure how or if they'd handle that.

They're considered a high quality folder and are collectible. Some say the TC 1 and 2's are the best folders SOG ever made.

I always wanted one but never got around to buying one, I bought a 3.0 a few years ago.

There's a SOG collectors site you can google and find out more.

IIRC... and these days, that's a big "if"... your Tomcat is AUS6 with a pretty strong back lock and glued on Kraton scales over SS. I also believe that those aren't the original thumb studs. My Sogwinder only had one that was secured with a screw so it could be reversed if desired. I think the Tomcats selling at the same time also had just one thumb stud.

I thought that there was a SOG forum here on BF. If there is, that'd be the place to post the pic and ask more about the knife.

now that you mention it , the shape of the blade doesn't look correct either.

I found this picture comparing all three generations and it looks like some "customized" a TC I

Hmm it does look different. I'll try to get dome better pictures in a few days when I get back home. The knife looks LNIB, and it doesn't look like its been modified but its always a possibility.

Looking at those TC photos jogged my memory a tad. After digging out my Sogwinder I see the blade on 00ChevyScott's looks just like the Sogwinder blade instead of the Tomcat...odd but still a great knife. Enjoy it! I have a replacement thumbstud as well.

I know it's a Sogwinder 2, I have one just like it. It's been my EDC for quite a while in the 90s. It's a brick, but very well made.
