Just got one from Reno Big Gun Show:

SOG-Tomcat-07.jpg

I have few qurestions.

Was it introduced at 1988?
Was it first tactical folder and if so is it kind of grandfather of all modern tactical folders etc?
How to fix horizontal blade paly - I have a little?
Why SOG stop making such a beauty? (ritorical)

Thanks, Vassili.

They still make it. Only now it comes with a thumbstud and not the nail nick.

Can't do anything about the horizontal blade play. Mine is the same way.

Vassili,
I believe the tomcat won the knife of the year award in 1989.
It's all stainless and welded togeather. I don't think the blade is adjustable.
I still see new tomcats for sale in catalogs. (MSC $110.00).
As to being the grandfather to the modren day tactical? Who knows. It is
a great knife. HTH Dan

The new one is ugly (IMHO). It is not even close to original Tomcat which looks almost better then SOG Bowie. Thickness and shortness actually make blade shape beauty more noticible.

Thanks, Vassili.

You know, there's a SOG forum at this website. They could certainly tell you when the knife was introduced, at the least....

I think Spyderco wins the award as Grandfather of the modern tactical folder (one-hand opening and a pocket-clip changed the knife world).

Allen.
