Hey Folks....I recently accquired a SOG Tomcat as a gift from a friend of mine, and I am curious about the Markings on the Bolsters which state : 842. What do these numbers signify? and if they are the serial numbers, does it mean that this was the 842nd piece to come out of the factory?..if so, which year was it manufactured in?...mine has the cocobolo wooden handles. thanks in advance...

ps: Great knife....thanks to all at SOG for such a great product!!

Thanks in advance!!:)

Hi Linjunpei,

This question was a harder one for me, but I think I have the answer for you. I had to confirm that the first run of Cocobolo Tomcats were numbered...and yes they were. But, if I got the facts correctly, only 250 would have been numbered (which is the typical maximum for SOG numbered items). The number on your knife was likely from another source......

.....unless I don't know what I'm talking about! ;)

RON,
I dun mean to doubt your opinion, but I saw the Tomcat® at another knife shop which gets their blades from another distributer, and they too have one which is "serialized"....I asked them about it and they told me that that was the knife's serial number....could you kindly check again for me?...thanks!!;)

Hi,

My "source" for the info on this one was SOG's owners. No one else would know any better.

Okiez....I think I should not doubt any further...
Thanks anyway, and no matter what, I still think the Tomcat is great...I'll be saving up to buy another, the Kraton version, just so that I have 2 different types to choose from...
Great knives...
