I just picked up one of these oldies.

This one appears to be the first generation version as indicated by the awl/bottle opener shape.

Seems well made, though a bit antequated.

Just wondering if anyone remembers these and what your opinion was.

well, it didn't look fancy (not exactly a high-tech gadget with all the bells and whistles), was kinda heavy, but exceptionally sturdy.
and pretty well made at that!
it was also a fully stainless steel plier with an attached belt spring clip (that was cool for a plier then).
can't say it ever was the top choice as a favorite carry, but as a collectable it's probably second only to Al Mar's 4 x 4 in terms of being placed in the rather unique category of high-end Japanese-made production heavy duty fixed-plier tool which was way above most pockets.
ownership now on, imo, is probably for that touch of historic pliertool nostalgia and hopefully to see it's monetary value exceed it's original listed price.

anytime.
and btw, the grey coating on the plier and handle is prone to react (as in chemically reacts and "breaksdown") when it comes into "prolonged contact" with certain petrolium based materials... take care of some forms of nylon or synthetic sheaths.
