SOG Trident 2.0 grip for big hands?

I'm considering ordering the Trident 2.0 bowie, but there is no place locally for me to get a feel for it.

I xlarge hands, and I'm worried about the finger groove design. I wish it was like the Tech Bowie with the first finger groove area going all the way to the guard. Can anyone comment on the grip usability with those groves?

Don't think my impression would mean much to you, my hands run around the medium/large area. I see your in Grand Rapids. I did a quick check and see that Gander Mountain at least lists the Trident 2.0 on their web site. I know there's at least a couple of GM's in your area. Could it be that one of them may have an example for you to check out?

Probably wouldn't get a chance before the special deal I'm looking to buy the Trident at runs out. I would feel guilty calling GM to see if they have it just so I could handle it, knowing I would not buy it from them (because of their prices). I can't remember exactly what kind of selection the one nearest me has, but it's not that big.

I have had both of those knives and the finger grooves on the Trident are a little funky. There are small and close together so felt crowded for my hand. I don't think they are a necessary feature on such a small handle but grip feel is very personal.

Yeah, I'd much rather have no finger grips, or at least like the Tech Bowie were they are stretched out.

Here is a good comparison of the finger grooves on the S-1 Bowie and a SEAL Pup Elite. The Bowie and Trident are very similar.

Decided just to go for the Tech Bowie, and it's on the way. I'm sure the grip with it will be fine.

There's a lot to like about the Tech Bowie. I'm thinking you'll like it. Set mine in the S1 type leather sheath after I did a little reconstruction on it.

I'm sure I'll like it. I was just drawn more to the satin blade finish in the Trident 2.0, but the satin Tech Bowie doesn't seem available any more (or at least not for the price I got).

Got the Tech Bowie. This is an awesome blade, and a pretty good fit for my hand (would be better if the grip was a bit thicker).

Maybe it's a good thing that the Trident 2.0 finger grip cut outs aren't quite as well optimized for larger hands. Otherwise, I'd be tempted to buy it, too. Still might one day :D

I have the Seki Trident with the micarta washer handle instead of the leather washer one but the finger grooves look exactly the same. The grooves are so shallow that you won't even notice it has them unless you think about it. Pretty much just cosmetic. Nothing like the finger grooves on a seal pup for instance. I love my Trident and is perfect in every way to me except that the micarta can be slick. In fact I am thinking about using my gunstock checkering tool on it to give the micarta better grip. I wish I had the leather handle one as they don't get as slick though they don't hold up as well as the micarta ones.

I would go out and buy a new Tech Bowie for use before I cut up an original Seki S2 Trident.

Men I know what you mean. I make custom knives and can make about anything I would want including fancy high grade folders. I found this trident in a pawnshop new and unsharpened for $40. I knew SOG where good knives and that for $40 I was stealing it so I bought it. At the time I had no idea it was a collectable and some what rare SOG or I would have just passed it on to someone that collects them. I have put a edge on it with an angle that is much better than what comes on them and I think my son has opened a few boxes or cut a rope or two but is still seen almost no use. I have a seal pup that sees lots of use though a and my son thinks it is great. I need to upgrade my membership here and trade this trident to someone that collects for another SOG that won't mind being used as a camp knife. I haven't even checked yet to see what a membership upgrade amounts to yet. I haven't posted here till now, just read mostly. As far as factory knives go SOG are better by far than most and I think they are missing out on a lot of sales by not offering better steel than they do especially given that their prices are far from bottom end. I like that SOG has for the most part resisted all the gimics but they for sure need to keep up with some of the more modern steels and more of the good carbon steels and that without much if any price raise . A fixed blade knife with good modern steel should not require more of a price with modern steel than they are already priced at IMO.

That should have started off with Ken, not men. This tablet thinks it knows better than I do what I'm trying to type.

Ochun,
Yes at $40 that certainly is a steal.
Gold membership here which is required to sell on the exchange I believe is $30 p/year.
You are quite right that SOG today is not the SOG that many of us "old fart SOG fans" remember.
