SOG Trident camo options

Hi SOG guys, I've been wondering if there are any future plans to release the Trident folders in the current ACU or MARPAT digital camo pattern finish. I figure since there's a black/grey tigerstripe version and desert camo version, why not a digital camo pattern on the blade? I think it would suit the Digi-Grip™ theme of the handle as well.

We have actually been discussing this lately and trying to figure out what we are going to do. I can't go into details right now but there might be some new camo patterns in the first part of 2006. Any suggestions as to what you would like or which pattern would be better received would be appreciated. For example would a Marine use/buy a knife with ACU pattern or would he not buy it because of it features the ACU pattern and not the MARPAT?

Chris, you have a very valid point. I work at Ft Benning, GA and the troops have started to replace their woodland BDUs in favor of the current ACUs and I know quite a number of guys who would die for a SOG Trident folder in ACU camo. Have you considered maybe discontinuing the all black and standard (uncoated) versions in favor of ACU and MARPAT camo models? That way, soldiers and marines can have their own options.

If I am reading your response correctly, you think that a soldier (ARMY) will not buy a knife with the MARPAT but will buy the ACU, and vise versa for a Marine. What if we were to do a design that was neither the ACU or MARPAT but similar to both of those patterns. Would that be well received?

I have been doing quite a bit of researce on this and it seems that the US Army was experimenting with a type of digital camo years ago. The first real use of what is considered digital camo seems to have been the Canadian military with it's CADPAT. Then the Marines with their MARPAT and finally the ACU.

Some info

MARPAT

CADPAT

Hi Chris. I really do think that Army soldiers would prefer the ACU pattern over the MARPAT. I can't speak for Marines, but I would assume they would prefer the MARPAT pattern over the ACU. That said, it would be interesting to see a camo design that would be similar to both patterns. I suppose it would depend on how closely the pattern matched their uniforms.
