Does anyone here own the new SOG Trident Folder (with the Groove)? If so, what are your thoughts on this knife? Does the handle have steel liners or is it totally Zytel? Overall would you say that it is a sturdy feeling knife? I own three SOG fixed blades (and love them) but I’ve never had the opportunity to handle any of their folders.

Thanks in advance for any and all information.

I dont own a trident folder but I believe it has steel liners to reinforce the zytel handles. I own a SOG flash II and I love the S.A.T. assist, if the trident is anything like the flash it's worth the price.

I don't own a Trident, but have handled a bunch of them. I am almost 100% positive the Trident has no liners unless my memory in failing me, which is entirely possible.......

The zytel handles are very strong and grippy, I remember squeezing the handles and it may have flexed 1/16 of an inch if any.

It is a very sturdy feeling knife, blade is very fast and extremely sharp.

Hmmmm... it's more likely that i am wrong... you have far more SOG experience than me. I always thought they were reinforced with steel near the groove area, i must have been wrong though. Oh well.:o

I know my flash II is very sturdy and it doesn't have any steel liners so it's probably no big deal. ;)

No Socintel, I could be wrong, my memory is a little short these days......... :o

Your right, the zytel is tough stuff.

I have one and love it, I love it so much it replaced my Flash 1 as my everyday carry. It's hard to visibly see, but there is some steel lining inside and it feels real sturdy. The blade action is a little slow at first, but thats only because it needs to be broken in. Since this would be your first SOG folder and a SAT at that, that would be taken care of very quickly. Opening it is almost addictive and the sound it makes when it pops open is unmistakable.

Cheers

See, I am losing my mind :D Oh well, I'll just have to get one then and really look it over like I did the Flash models.

I also have another excuse for not knowing if it has steel liners, I can't see up close unless I wear my readers........... :p

Edited to add: I just got off the phone with one of the SOG employees and ask about this liner, our members Socintel and Guardrail were right, (Socintel from the beginning), the liners are only near the butt end of the knife reinforcing the cord cutter, they do not run the entire length of the zytel handles.

Thanks a bunch guys..... :D
