Hi there... I am new here, just registered right now.

I wanna buy a new SOG folder, but can´t decide between Trident (satin finish - plain edge) or the Flash II (satin finish - plain edge).

Do you guys can tell me the pros and cons about each model ?

It will be a new EDC folder. I´m gonna use it in everyday tasks (not hard ones).

If someone can post a lot of pics to check it´s sizes, I´ll be grateful!

Thanks in advance!

Welcome Federal, I have both models so I made some pictures for you.

First off the sizes, Flash II 3,5'' (8.9cm) blade, 8'' (20.3cm) overall weight 3.1oz (88gr).
Trident 3.75'' (9.5cm) blade, 8.5'' (21.6cm) overall and it weights 3.6oz or a 102 grams.

The sizes are pretty close I guess, it's not a real big difference. The blade of the Trident is wider and has a 'bowie' shape. Both AUS 8 and zytel handle (which SOG provided with a good grip) but the Trident has of course a 'groove'. I don't use that but I've tried it and when you lock your blade it will do a good job on rope and fishing line and maybe your seatbelt.

Well lets place some pics to see the sizes.

Seems all pretty equal, I don’t really prefer one blade shape, they both cut well. I think it’s more ‘which blade shape do you like’, and pick the one you like.
So I don’t think one blade is better than the other but there are some things different. First off, I think that the arc lock on the Trident is better. It’s a lot easier to close the blade. The piston lock on the Flash is harder to push down and it did hurt my thumb after a few times. So the Trident wins that one.

Then of course the opening of the blade, IMO the Flash wins here. The Flash opens more smoothly and the blade stays better in place. The Trident has a little more blade play than the Flash.

So if you want a ‘easy’ folder for EDC then I would go for the Flash 2. It’s a little lighter, easier to open and it just feels better for EDC work. However, if you think a Trident looks better then I would go for that one cause there is not much difference between those blades. The Trident is also good for EDC work although I think it’s a little too big. The Trident is better for the woods I guess, but the Trident can be a life saver if you need to cut your belt but I don’t know if you think that’s important.

So overall both knives are good but if I where you then I would just pick the one that you like most. As I said, the Flash feels more solid and opens better but the Trident has also some better things.
As for a EDC I would go for the Flash 2, a little smaller, opens better and feels better. Maybe the Trident feels better when you have really big hands, it has a extra grip on the blade to give you more feeling when you need to cut something with more precision.

The clips on these folders are both solid and you can lock both blades.

Also reed the lines that SOG wrote about these folders: http://sogknives.com/store/TF-2.html

Wow! Nice and fast reply!

Great pics also...

Actually, I like the "feel" in the hands. Like you said, the Flash II feels more solid in the hand, so I guess it will be my choice.

I am not a fan of serrated edges, specially SOG serrated edges.
I have one SOG Seal with serrated edge. Is it the same serrated edge that has in Flash II ?

Definitely gonna take the Flash II. I just don´t know if it will be plain edge or combo edge.

I wish SOG produces TiNi or Tigerstripe blades with all plain edge!

Thanks for the pics and info!

Well if you like Tanto points, SOG does make at least the Trident with a plain edge and a TiNi coating.

I like the thumstuds better on the Flash II, but the Trident just feel a little better in my hand after playing with both for a bit.

I didn't see if you had a preference as far as Arc Lock or an AO. You may want to check out the Vulcan. VG10 steel and Arc Lock. The regular comes with a 3.5" blade and the Mini comes with a 3" blade, both with PE. Here is a pic of my Mini Vulcan.

From the pictures, both serrations look pretty alike.
If you don't like the serrations then just pick up a plain edge.

Indeed Steely_Gunz, the thumb studs on the Trident are too far from the handle which makes it more difficult to open.

XD45, de Vulcan is a good choose and the axis lock is one that I would like to pick up in the future but it's much more expensive than the Flash. So I don't know how much Federal LG wants to spent but I guess that the Vulcan is a cut above.

Has the Vulcan any blade play XD45?

Just a little bit when it arrived but I tightened the screw a little and it's all good now.

The Vulcan is a great option too.
Actually, price is reasonable too... I think I can spend until 100 dollars in it.

I like Vulcan´s blade shape either, but the thing about the Trident and Flash that attracts me is the S.A.T. opening system.

Gonna think about it. Thanks for the pics.
