Hey guys, I was thinking about getting an SOG trident, what do you guys think of it. i have heard good reviews but some people say it has some bladeplay. Tell me what you think of it.

The Flash, Trident and Aegis knives have different shapes, but they're practically identical on a mechanical level. They all have metal-free zytel handles and SOG's propietary piston-based locking mechanism. The piston lock tends allow some up-down play, especially as it wears in, and the handles always have a bit of give, meaning there's lateral play as well.
I've handled a number of all three knives, and never found one that didn't have some play.

Having said that, this is an under $50 knife, even in Canada. However acceptable people find it, there will always be loose blades in that price range. The Flash, Trident, and Aegis knives are nonetheless solid cutting tools and make good beater knives. I used one for cutting duct tape and duvotene and other stuff that would have dirtied my primary blade.

Yeah mine has a lot of play and the edge dulled very very quickly under minimal use. I would not recommend it, honestly.

My trident developed large amounts of vertical blade play after a year of use, and the plastic washers held grit. Also the seat belt cutter slot caused bunching of the fabric and wouldn't cut, but I think that is specific to the tanto shape. The assisted opening was dogishly slow and the edge retention was pretty poor.

But I will say that the blade never chipped but would tend to roll instead which for me was a good thing.
It has a great pocket clip.
The handle was absolutely great, loved the shape and the traction.

At the end of the day its a semi decent tough but soft blade, with a great handle and pocket clip. You can do better for the money.
