SOG Trident vs Kershaw Tac Blur?

I'm new, so I apologize if this is in the wrong section :)
Right now I'm looking at two different folders for my first folder. It'll be used for general purpose work (needs to be heavy-duty, and I'm not too worried about the price as long as it isn't over $70 or so). I've been looking at the SOG Trident folder, with the serrated edge, and the Kershaw Tactical Blur, with the serrated edge. How are the locking mechanisms on the two? I've heard good things about the SOG's speed, how does the Kershaw stack up? I'd like it to be as fast as possible (even though it's just a utility knife, I'd like a fast (blur-like? lol), snappy, and reliable assisted opening) and as STRONG as possible. I have big hands with long fingers, and unfortunately, no B&M shops to look at any of these at, so any opinions from my large-handed friends would be appreciated (although I usually don't have issues with smaller-framed equipment, the extra size would be nice). Thanks.
PS: A place to buy one online would be a nice touch, too.
PPS: I haven't looked at 100% of the knives out there, but if you have any suggestions that are similar and/or better than these two for my requirements, feature requests, and price range, please speak up :)

Between those two, I'd get the Blur.

But for under $70, I'd much rather get a Benchmade 551 Griptilian, maybe a Spyderco Delica.

Not too familiar with the SOG but got my wife the Kershaw Blur and it's a great knife for the price. Warrantee is excellent.

You might want to reconsider about getting the serated blade as it is somewhat more time-consuming to resharpen.

Most forum members seem to prefer the plain edged blade style for every day cutting tasks.

I'm not too worried about sharpening time. I have lots of free time :) How's the strength/speed of the action on the Blur? The Benchmade 551 with the tanto blade looks pretty nice, how's the AXIS work out for you? Speed/strength compared to the Kershaw and the SOG? How's Benchmade as a company?

Jmms, Welcome to the Forums! I was able the handle the Blur and the Speed of the toursion bar is not blazing fast. I have an Avalanche and now a Mini-Mojo and handled the blur and all the actions are what I call sort of a slow and controlled speed (in case your wondering, my pivots on both Kershaws are not tight) as compaired to the Camullis Heat (which I would recomend) The action on mine is very fast and it has IMO the best blade shape for EDC. Good knife at a good price.

Hope this helps. (I'm recomending the Camullis because of the speed issue, my Kershaws are great knives and I will injoy using them)

Walter P.S. you can't go wrong with Benchmade. (IMO)

I'd say go for it. i have a 555 and while I don't use it everyday now, I put it in my pocket when I need a smallish knife. BM's 440c is great and I'd recomend it too.

Walter

If you are considering ANY axis lock then I say go for it.

I have the Benchmade model 710 in M2 steel and the Ritter Grip in SV30 and they are my favorite knives due to the axis lock, which when released, enables the blade to be flicked out at super speed.

The locking mechanism is also very strong and hard to defeat.

Thanks guys :)
Is there anything else I need to know about Benchmade knives, the AXIS system, or anything else I forgot? (The 440C steel sounds good). Where's a good place to order?

Newgraham.com is a reliable company to deal with - any problems and they will take care of you.

In addition, you'll have a hard time beating their prices.

Heh, funny, I'm just now browsing their site :)

I'm guessing it's the 553 SBT I'm looking for? Odd, becasue the Benchmade website lists the one I want (Tanto serrated and coated blade) as the 553SBK.

I'm quite sure the 553sbt is what you're looking for. I can't figure out what the 553sbtod is unless it means the handle is olive drab.

The Axis lock is great, and Benchmade is one of the best companies out there.

I have a Kershaw blur and think it is a great knife. I never had any problems with the liner lock it was very solid and strong. Not as good as the axis lock (the best lock there is IMO) but still very good. I wished they would use better steel. I can get a great edge but it won’t last as long as I like. The black coating is the best I have found; better then the coating on my BM 710.

As for the SOG Trident. I handled one at the store found nothing I liked about it.

If you would like you could barrow my Blur for a couple of weeks. Just send it back when your done. Let me know.

OK, I ordered a 553 from New Graham knives :) Does it come prelubricated, or should I throw in an order of militec?
