sog trident

ST1: I've never had my hands on a Trident, but I'm a fan of the Aegis (both sizes) and Flash (both sizes). So if the Trident has the same flavor as those two, I would be inclined to like it. SOG folders have a certain personality that is not for everyone, but if you can get past the sorta plasticky, cheapy feel, they have much going for them.

wait are you the same guy who stole from another member a few months ago, he was sogtrident7, got banned now a sogtrident 1, mods need to check the IP address on this one..If you are 2 different people my apologies , but there is a very bad history with that username, and people may get you confused with him...

In the interest of the question, no--they are not. I have the tanto (bought it a couple of years ago)--for the money, given the materials, I'd rather have an Ontario Rat-1. When the screw holding the pocket clip came loose, I tried tightening it, and the head broke off--leaving a portion of the screw stuck in the handle (I used slight... slight, pressure). I sent it back to SOG explaining the problem... they superglued the clip to the scale! ...filling in the hole w/ the broken screw with glue. Unacceptable. Otherwise, the handle is pretty unimpressive, there is blade play (and if you tighten too much, the knife does not deploy)... all in all, it does not inspire confidence. I do not carry or use it much and the damage makes it not worth selling... I plan to give it to a buddy next time he visits... if he wants it.

As for the status/ID of the member... that is something for the admin's to look into.

I had a Sog Trident Tanto. It was a piece of crap. Lots of bladeplay. I personally don't like SOG. The guy above me got it spot on. Don't get it. Go by Spyderco or maybe a mini-Grip.

Had a SOG Trident that I bought at wally world on spur of the moment impulse, Don't do it. Your username tells me you already have though. For the money go with a Kershaw Blur, american, Not cheap plastic handles, and a blade steel that is worth a damn. My .02
On a side note, I got the SOG michronII for Christmas, very capable for EDC and doesn't scare sheeple because of its size.

My trident has survived 6ish months of hard use and is still trucking on.
The serrations are a good medium between too aggressive and too weak (If you even like serrations) and the clip point blade is good for cutting and stabbing through things. I am a bit biased towards it though, being that it saw me through my first true life or death encounter. Would I buy again? Maybe, but the Spyderco, Kershaw, and Benchmade folders offer different advantages for around the same price.

definitely not, that was my first pocketknife and it freakin sucks. I would rather have a $10 sanrenmu than another freakin trident.

Haven't handled a Trident. When I decided I needed a good EDC knife about 8 months ago, the 1st one I got was a SOG Aegis. I carried and used it everyday for maybe 4 months, since then i carry and use it occasionally. Because I now have 2 Spydies and 2 Benchmades, and honestly they are just so much better built knives.
I really do like the light, easy carry Aegis, I like its blade shape and its easy to get nice and sharp. But its assisted opening, after 4 + months of use has certainly lost its briskness. Compared with the Benchmade 790 Subrosa and Barrage 581, deploying the Aegis now brings the word 'flaccid' to mind.

SOG is probably the company that frustrates me the most. They're so close to being a really solid company, some good designs, some good ideas, but they have a history of spotty QC, bad CS and a loose grasp of what constitutes an original design. If you're going to buy one of their knives I would recommend going through a dealer you trust, asking them to check the knife before shipping it to you, and going over it with a bloody microscope once you get it. Don't use it until you're sure there aren't any of the prevalent flaws so that if there are issues with it you can send it back to the dealer and not have to send it in to SOG.

I think SOG knives cost to much for what you get. There are better alternatives out there that cost less.

My SOG Trident is complete crap. I use it as a beater knife now in hopes i can break it and finally be done with it. And all my SOG knives seem to have blade play, it seems to be less of a problem and more of a feature they come with. Either way SOG knives are very overpriced for what you get and dont have very good QC. id go with a Spydey, Kershaw or really...anything other than SOG :S
