Asked this on the SOG forum, but trying to get a wider input.

What do you think of the new Tsunami with the black coating?

This will be a dedicated self defense knife, no car hoods and no batonning.

Thanx

This looks basically like a N.W. Ranger with a Tanto. If that's the case it would serve you well as a defensive knife. Good grippy handle, lightweight and quick in hand. Single guard also. Good luck

Yeah, that was my feeling too. I've handled several of the Rangers and I have just never gotten a good feel from them, even more so for the Seal Pup.

I've owned and carried CS Recon Tanto's for years but I think I like the point of the Tsunami better. The two are similar in size and weight, although not the same. I think the configuration of the Tsunami as opposed to the Recon Tanto would make it less utility and more fighter.

That nice little touch on the bottom of the hilt, looks like it will tear up your finger pretty good.

AUS8a/Taiwan/Kraton Handle

Looks the part for what you want, I like the blade shape.

I like the TOPS 7.5" Anaconda as a fixed blade tanto, seems to have more going for it if actually pressed into defensive duty.

i edc a SOG Tsunami but not the black blade.its not really for self defencr for me because i cut alot of stuff at work.but it can be used for defence.the only thing with it as a defense knife would be the sheath.the nylon does not carry like kydex does so your draw will be slower and you will have less carry options.i have a letherman in my pouch.heres a pic

So you're saying it cuts well? If you have the time could you clue me in to what you cut, how well it holds it's edge and what your sharpening experience is?

I have a couple of sheaths I think will work just fine.

Thanxabunch for the info.

Took a quick look at the TOPS. Probably superior knives in general. Just not in my price range.
