I am torn between the sog twitch xl tanto in black and the kershaw leek g 10.
Which knife do you think has better overall quality? I have read reviews saying the kershaw leeks tip breaks is this true? I have also read poor reviews about the SOG.
Also how does the finish on the Sog hold up I read a review saying it flakes off pretty fast?
Thank you guys for your help.

I much prefer Kershaw products to SOG. I've got a twitch and it's a good overall beater knife, but the G10 Leek (IMO) is the way to go, no question. If you had both in hand you would easily be able to feel the difference in construction and finish. Go with the Leek!

i would go with the leek and kershaw over sog in general

i have both the sog twitch II and leek as well as owning the sog flash 1 & 2
i am not impressed with sogs assisted openers and their construction in general. from the side to side play (which can be adjusted out with the pivot but greatly slowing down the speed of deployment) to vertical play in my flashes and cheap feel of the flashes zytel. the brushed aluminum frame of the twitch is very nice though and i give it to sog with the flow through lock back design that allows use of a flipper . the leek is better built imo, it opens very quick and with authority more so then the twitch i own. imo, its the best bang for buck light duty/edc assisted opener on the market. the tip is a bit fragile in the leeks... it youre prying with the leek (which you shouldnt be, its not made for that) yes it can and will snap off.

Between the two you have listed, I would pick the SOG without a doubt. But there are many other Kershaws I would pic over the SOG

Easy, Kershaw Leek.

WHY?

Leek: Made in USA, much better steel, better materials, unconditionally better warranty and customer service, better price (look around, you can get them for cheap), better coating, won't have the bladeplay that SOG's are notorious for...etc.

The Kershaw leek tip will only break if you are being negligent with your knife. Don't pry with it, use it as it's intended, and it'll be fine. I've EDC'd a leek for 2 straight years in the past, and I had zero problems.

What other kershaws would you pick over the SOG?

I forgot, welcome to bladeforums! :)

Zing, OD-1, Barrage, Ener-g 1, Shallot, Blur, Groove, just off the top of my head can be found in the general price range that you may be looking for.

Thank you very much. I found the blur with the s30v blade do you think that is better than the leek s30v?

Hey man,

Depends on a lot of things, how you dress, what your lifestyle is like, how large your hands are (mine are medium, and both knives are comfortable with the blur feeling more secure since it fills the hand more). The blur is more "robust", given its size and blade style, but then again you may not need that and might prefer the slicing profile of the leek. I've got 2 leeks and 3 blurs and they all get carry time. Some people like the sleekness of the leek (I'd get the random leek if I were to get an S30V variant, just because the leek is meant to be sleek). However, if you want the leek's blade-shape and want rough textured G-10, then go for the standard stonewashed version.

They both have tipup/down pocket clip orientation and the blur utilizes the excellent ramped thumbstuds, while most people use the flipper on the leek--so the opening method is another point to consider.

Let me know if you've got any more questions.

I have decided on the Kershaw blur s30v. Thank you everyone for your help I appreciate it.
