I just received this pocket knife a couple of days ago . I am a bit confused though because it is advertised that one can open it with only one hand . So at the side of the knife is a little bar, which I assume is the locking mechanism, I slide that to the other side and then press on the long bar and the knife comes out a tiny bit . I then have to use my other hand to pull open the knife and it locks into the open position , so I have to use two hands to open it . So why can't I open it with one hand ? Is this how it is supposed to be or am I doing something wrong ?

I don't have a twitch 1, but if you watch this video you should figure it out.

Thank-you for this link to this video . To answer my own question , yes I was doing something wrong and it IS possible to open with only one hand . I figured out the locking mechanism but I was trying to open it with the dial in the middle instead of the dial at the end of the knife .

This knife is ALMOST like a switchblade, is it not ? So what differentiates it from a switchblade ? Is there a video available as to how a switchblade would open ? Even so, if one were in the woods and a wolf attacked the person, by the time the knife was positioned properly in the hand to open it the wolf would already be on top of the person. I guess that I shouldn't have used this as an example because Wolfs very rarely attack people . I just meant to say that it opens very quickly but it still takes time to get the knife in the proper position .

The fact that differentiates assisted knives, like the Twitch II that you have, is that the blade has a bias towards being closed. Unlike a switch blade where the blade wants to spring open and the only thing keeping it closed is the button you depress to cause the blade to open. In assisted knives you have to move the blade itself with your hand to get it past the point where is wants to stay closed. So you are in control of the blade when it starts to open.

Does that make sense?

If the safety switch is open at the side, then one does not have to touch the blade at all . Pressing on the dial at the end causes the blade to fully open from a closed position . When I first tried the knife it behaved like you are explaining , the blade came out and I used my hand to open it but that is because I pressed on the dial in the middle of the case instead of the dial at the end of the case. With this model no "hand" is needed ( except if the safety switch is in the closed position ). If the safety switch is open then pressing on the dial at the end causes the blade to fully open from a closed position , which is possible to do with only one hand. I think there is no difference between the Twitch 11 and a switchblade, other than the safety switch on the Twitch 11, but if the safety switch is left open it behaves no different than a switchblade does.

Yes. And more succinctly than I could have put it.

I'm confused.
What do you mean by "dial".

There is one round disk on the Twitch II, around the pivot on the handle.

The knife is opened by use of the flipper, which sticks out from the top or spine when closed and protrudes from the bottom when open, and is part of the blade.
The knife is opened by flicking the flipper to start moving the blade out, then the spring assists and fully opens the blade, as is shown in that vid.

If yours opens when you put pressure on the pivot disk there is something wrong with it.

Sorry, I didn't know the proper name of these parts that I referred to as "dial". When the knife first arrived I didn't know that it is the flipper that opens it and I was trying to open it with the pivot disk . Putting pressure on the pivot disk did not open it but only unlocked it and then I pulled it open with my other hand. Knowing that it was supposed to open with only one hand I knew that I must have been doing something wrong and that is why I asked for help on this forum. Then another member, sogflash, sent me a link to a video which showed me the correct way of opening the knife.
