I have had a SOG twitch II, and the spring broke on it about a year ago, They sent me on free on in the mail, So with the twitch design it was easy to just loosen the pivot screw and put a new spring in, It broke again... :thumbdn: and so I thought okay I guess I just have to request another one, Well this time they wouldn't send me one, they wanted almost $20.00 for a replacement spring! they say it voids the warranty to loosen the pivot screw... :grumpy: I already took the broken spring out anyway, SO apparently I voided my warranty a long time ago, But of course I was never aware of any of this. So I tossed it back in the drawer, I found it again today and now i noticed the thumb stud is loose as heck! :grumpy: What am I suppose to do with this knife now? I payed almost $80.00 for it (I know...) and now it feels like a broken crippled dollar store knife. Does anyone know anyway I can fix the problems with this knife? At least the thumb stud, I am so frustrated with this knife I feel like just tossing it in the trash. If SOG doesn't get there act together I will never own another one! :(

call back again, tell them it just broke, and use a different name.

It sucks that you have to lie to them, but that should get you your spring.

I was hoping a mod might chime in but I guess that ain't happening, I guess the knife will go back in the drawer, might just give it too someone who doesn't give a crap about the assisted opening. I will never own a SOG ever again, I was looking at the Flash model but screw it, this company just doesn't back up there product! Should have listened to the warnings...

Matt,

I've had experience with SOG knives breaking (the spring) on the Flash II, Trident, and Tomcat that make your horror story sound like a fairy tale. I'd like you to give them one more chance. You will need to send them the knife without the previous story. If they can tell you messed with it and won't repair it under warranty and you don't want them to fix it and charge you they can just send it back. Their knives do have a lifetime warranty. For me their warranty dept. was the best. For a while I hated SOG because of the experience I had with the Flash II and Trident. Since they were both SAT assisted opening I bought a Tomcat with the arc-lock. Well it failed also but they repaired it quickly as always. Now every SOG I have is working fine. Since they always broke while opening I have the Trident on the coffee table and when watching TV I'll sit there and open and close it repeatedly. No problems for about 4 months.

You shouldn't have to spend anything except shipping to them. I just put 4 stamps on a box myself. No insurance or tracking so if it gets lost I'd have been screwed I guess.

It's funny but I just opened this forum today to see about SOG experiences because I'm thinking about buying another one. Vulcan mini or Visionary I.

I know how you feel about SOG because I've felt the same but for now they have redemed themselves in my eyes. Good luck no matter what you decide to do.

Jack

PS
I don't like the Flash II. It doesn't fit in the hand worth a damn in my opinion. Also, the multi-tools are top-notch, my favorite over others I've used by far.

PS again: I just read your post again. The SOG warranty dept. has told me on numerous occasions you can remove the pivot screw to put lock-tight on it if you want and it won't void any warranty. Replacing a spring on the other hand is a different story. I'm surprised they sent you one and didn't suggest you send them the knife to begin with. Luck.
