SOG Ultra XR issues right out of the box

Hi folks,

I'm posting this here again because the SOG manufacturer's forum has cobwebs in it.

I just received a SOG Ultra XR (graphite/carbon) in the mail, it's gritty despite copious amounts of oil that came on the pivot. When you look down on top of the knife it seems there is more space between the scale and the blade on the right side of the blade vs the left and there seems to be only one washer... Steel riding straight on CF would explain this grittiness. I don't want to take this knife apart because axis type locks in general are a nightmare for me to reassemble without affecting the centering. Is this normal? Did someone forget a washer? Did SOG change the design? I don't really need to take the knife down because I can see only one washer with a flashlight. Also, there is absolutely ZERO billboarding or markings of any kind on the blade. Is this normal also? No branding, no steel type, nothing. (Quite refreshing from SOG's usual routine, but odd). This knife was purchased from DLT. Any explanations are appreciated. Thanks.

I would return it and give up on SOG.
Normally I would agree with you given their past, but actually was impressed with the Terminus XR and thought that they may be improving.plus DLT's return policy seems to be a bit dickish. You pay return shipping no matter what's wrong with the knife they sold you, package must not be damaged in any way (I put a little rip in mine, which apparently they will not accept), return must include the original receipt etc... Sorry just the wording in the 'returns' section is a little "too bad, FU." I just want to know if everyone has one washer or two, that's all.

Every picture of that knife shows branding and other markings on both sides of blade. I tried the Seal XR and it's very impressive. Has SOG and made in USA, steel type and more on the blade.
Exactly. And my model has zero markings. The only branding is SOG on the clip. Came in the correct box, from DLT (a reputable dealer), so I'm not even considering it to be a fake, just a manufactu goof. I just want to know if they've changed the design to only have 1 washer, like the Para 3 LW, or if mistakes were made and there were supposed to be 2 washers, one on each side of the blade

I would ask DLT why the blade is sterile and I'd also inquire with SOG.
I'm going to call DLT when they open Monday. They'll probably say they have no idea because the box was sealed. I've gotten knives before with no markings and kept them because there were no other problems. I would also do so in this case (SOG is notorious for putting their branding everywhere, so in this case it's refreshing to not have SOG all over), but my primary issue is the bad action because the one side of the blade is steel on CF).

With DLT it's hard to imagine a counterfeit slipping by. So my guess would be the result of poor quality control in China.
But still, find it hard to imagine no markings would get past inspection. A real puzzler. Can't wait to hear what SOG has to say.

Yeah, like I said the lack of markings don't really bother me all that much as the grittiness because of only one washer. Can someone who owns one of these please confirm that there are one or two washers?

I think Nick Shabazz does a disassembly video on YouTube. That should answer your question.

Probably too late for an answer but it should have had a washer on both sides. Teflon, not nylon like the garbage China counterfeits. Should of had all of the logo and model info on the blade as well.
I would love to see a photo of the box with its label and UPC code. SOG counterfeits rarely have the correct packaging.
