I have a older SOG Vision, well i am assuming it's older it doesnt have the Arc-Lock just a liner lock. Anyway I was looking at the X-Ray Vision and thinking of ordering one, and was wondering does the x-ray with it's diff. handles open as smoothly as this regular Vision? the Vision I have here is sooooo smooth, better then any folder I have ever picked up.

See this thread to read about this Vision and the Wood shedder:grumpy:

The new Visions are a treat, I have 2: a Night Vision, and the Ti Vision, both with Arc locks. They are very smooth, and lock up tight.
I am not normally a fan of American Tanto points, but really like this knife.:D
The X-Ray vision is the Zytel handled version with a bead blasted finish. Depending on your intended use, keep it wiped down with oil or TuffCloth if you are regularly getting it wet.;)

And yes, I do want to know what happened with the chipper... I'm sure it isn't as bad as I now imagine it to be:barf:

Thanks for imput, I was wondering if the Zytel handles would allow the knife to open as smooth as the one I just sent off, By the way it left with UPS today so you all be on the look out for it. And whatever you can imagine with the chipper......it's worse.

It depends HOW you open it. The liner lock versions were "smooth as silk" for flinging open. The Arc-Locks are very firmly held shut, but if you pull back on the lock release, no tension remains on the blade and it can be very easily tossed out.

My Warranty Department does a great job at assessing the knives that come in. Assuming there is no non-warranty related structual damage, your knife sounds like it might just need a bit of refurbishing. But one never knows till we review it.

You know...we are sick, perverse people. Our expiring minds want to know.

Ok you asked. The plant this chipper is at brings in huge trees and makes 8-inch thick plywood that is finished for using as floors walls etc. the stuff is shipped to Japan. Anyway they have huge chippers that guys stand above and I guess drop wood down into, well this one day a guy jambs one of chippers and goes down and hits the cut off switch then climbs in the chipper to extract the jamb, and one of his co-workers comes by and turns the machine on while the guy is in the chipper, I doubt I need to go into detail about what happened to the poor guy. While standing above looking at the chipper and how it works later that day, the SOG fell out of pocket and into the chipper, it got lodged behind one of the cogs and a worker pried it out, Like I said I was very surprised this knife made it out in one piece. The large screw going through the pocket clip and the 2 small screws have most of the heads on them ground down, the clip is kind of whacked and one corner of the backside handle is ground down, the blade took some roughness but did not break or anything just scratched up allot. The handles are all scratched up. The blade and the handles are just cosmetic damage but the clip and screws are useless now, maybe the clip can be saved I'm not sure if the problem is with it or just the screws in it.

Now make no mistake, I didn’t imply or intend this be thought of as a warranty problem. It's just I wanted the knife fixed so it's useable again, to good a knife to let lay around because the clips messed up. So I didn’t expect SOG to consider this warranty work. I'll be happy if it can be fixed and useable. And I have to say I don't know if another knife would have survived this trauma like this Vision did. Feel free to use this in advertising LOL. Thanks guys hope you don't get to bad picture in your head of the above incident; I tried to type it so it's not nasty.

By the way this knife and incident has made my mind up to go ahead and purchase one of the SOG Seal knives I have been eye balling down at our store forever, Just have to decide which I want the large or the Mini.

My view is that we would replace a clip for anyone. While the knife is in here for a clip replacement, we refurbish the complete knife. I have not problem taking care of this.

If the knife has another problem associated with the accident we find that effects its performance (such as structural or lock integrity), that might affect what we can ultimately do "under warranty."

No prob. there, I dont think there is any structural damage to the knife at all just the clip, the knife locks up tight and still in 'shape'. The liner lock is worn some from use though it moves almost across the knife, but this was from before the incident, and I didnt say anything about it when sending it in, it still works fine, someday it may need to be fixed but for now it's ok. Like I said to dang good a knife not to get fixed even if it cost me.

Hi NGK-Webmaster,

Just an update on the knife you sent in.

We reworked your knife and had no trouble fixing damaged parts (specifically the clip and associated screws). There was a small portion on the handle that was damaged/scuffed that we could not fix. Part of the complete refurbishing we did was beadblasting the Titanium scales. It removed all the scratches and has given it a bit darker shade of gray. The handles have gone from looking very used...to almost new! We cleaned, sharpened, and oiled...all the usual stuff.

It shipped off yesterday (Friday). Let me know what you think when you get it! :)
