I am considering both the SOG Visionary I and the Benchmade 707 as an EDC. They seem pretty similar: about 3" blade, good steel quality (VG-10 versus 154CM), pretty lightweight and priced similarly. Also the Arc lock and Axis lock seem comparable. Has anyone experience with these knives, particularly the SOG, which hasn't gotten a lot off reviews. I know Benchmade quite well, but not the better quality SOG folders.

I'll probably get some replies saying I should go for a Benchmade 940 (and maybe I will :jerkit: ) but I'd really like to know how the SOG compares to the Benchmade.

In your other thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/895954-SOG-Arc-lock-versus-Benchmade-Axis-lock I think they did a good job trying to push you to the Axis.

Positive reviews on SOG anything is super rare the past 5 years or so. They were mentioned more a little after Nutnfancy first took off by a new wave of knife nuts but then a lot of those people started having problems with their Flash, Aegis, etc.

I don't think they are doing so well so quality has gone down with price staying about the same and they are putting out stuff like the SOGzilla......I would definitely get a Benchmade you are interested in before one of the SOG folders and I'm not a huge Benchmade fan.

Both knives will serve you well. SOGs are a weird animal in that sometimes they nail it and other times not so much. They don't use what most consider "premium" steels and sometimes seem to copy other designs. Many of their folders use the same inexpensive plastic scales which again work but feel cheap. "If" you could find a Benchmade Blackwater 16707 you would have the quality of benchmade with the blade shape of the SOG. I wonder where SOG got that blade shape design?

I don't have either, but will comment on my opinions of Benchmade's 154CM. I have it in a Griptillian I bought a couple of years ago and and underwhelmed with it. It is moderately sharp, and I don't feel that it holds an edge as long as other 154CM knives from other makers. I am a huge BM fan, just not of the 154CM because of my experience with the Griptillian.
