Im looking for an new EDC/ defensive knife, been carrying a sog trident for couple years and now it just tired...

looking at these two
sog visionary II vg-10 steel

kershaw blur 14c28n steel

main thing is I like the arc lock on the visionary but i like the scales on the blur...

any opinions (dont recommend spyderco, dont like em wont use em)

tried a griptillian but it felt cheap to me, why dont they use full length liners? :grumpy:

Go with whatever handle feels best to you if its a defensive knife. I like the SOG.

the vg10 used in some sogs is great. many models in that line can certainly be edc for defensive capacity.personally i like the spec elite in 4 in. one outstanding feature of their arc lock is the ease of left hand --right hand deployment. for righties the left hand opening is so easy one thinks he is left handed.

Im leaning more toward the sog due to the fact Ive seen a few blur lock failures on youtube... and Ive put my trident through hell.(used to be a sewer tech.) and its never failed in any way...

Buy a Benchmade. Try a HK 14205 or a 950 Rift. They may be a little more $, but you can't beat the customer service. They both has G-10 handles full liners and can be had for around $100 +or- if you look around. IIRC the Visionary has zytel handles. The BM's have the axis lock which is the same but made from the people that started the craze.

I was considering the rift, I collect the osborne knives... didnt get too excited over the 14205... how does g-10 hold up to mud? is it easy to clean I know the texture of zytel can mean it looks dirty all the time or it 'll clean up fine.

so lets do the Visionary II against the RIFT, only difference I can see besides price is the g-10 and slightly better blade design.

G-10 is impervious to oil, mud, water, petrolium based products, and cleaning products. It also doesn't expand or contract as much as as plastic (zytel, FRN, and Valox) in heat or cold temps. The HK 14205 has a thicker blade then the rift. The Rift is a very capable cutter and stands out in ergos department with the Handle shape a grip on the G-10.

Here are some comparo pics of other BM I have.
