I recently ordered a sog visionary 2 and I am very pleased with it.
I posted my review here.

I also have a spyderco endura that i use at work. The endura is a fine knife but its not the prettiest thing ever and its not the most comfortable thing ever. I am sarting to compare these two knives now and I find them rather similar.

I would put the sog visionary 1 and 2 in the same boat as the delica and endura even though the spyderco area little cheaper. An endura can run about $50.00 and the visonary 2 about $100.00 (on newgraham.com)They both use vg-10, the visionary 2 and endura are similar in size as are the visionary 1 and the dedlica, they both use a plastic type handle, FRN and zytel.

That being said I think the visionary series seems to be everything the delica and endura are but better.
The visionary series has full liners with a small lip while the endura and delica liners are not full. The visionary series has that nice smooth ar lock while spyderco has the basic lockback.
The visionary is a more asthetially pleasing shape, especially with that nice subtle recurve. And even though the visionary handle seem to be more basic, I find it to be more comfortable.

Yes spyderco does manage to get those enduras and delicas out at cheaper costs making them more competitive, but I am starting to like the visionary 2 better than the endure.
The endura and delica have been sort of standard EDC knife in the knife comunity but the more I think about it, i think that the visionary should be a new standard. Ok, because of the price maybe not the new standard but I would at least say that the visionary series is the endura/delica but better.

If you paid 100$ for it, why are you comparing it to the Endura?

Yeah, apples to apples, oranges to oranges. My Ford Taurus could have been a Corvette if I'd paid twice as much for it. The reason the SOG has extra crap is because it is twice the price.

While that model looks like one of SOG's more ergonomic designs compared to the Flash and a few others I've handled, I notice for twice the price of an Endura you get a heavier knife with the same blade steel and a thumbstud rather than opening hole (I prefer the latter, others might not care as much).

How is the lock-up? Every SOG I've handled with that style lock had blade play.

Also how does the handle security of the knife compare with the Endura?

One last question. Is the clip functional? I ask because I recently acquired an SOG Trident in a trade and got rid of it because I couldn't remove it from my pocket using a normal draw motion. The clip completely stuck to my pants. Other than that I thought it was a nice knife and would of kept it.

I have a Visionary ll and it has absolutely no blade play:thumbup:.

I just removed the clip and bent it so that it would be tighter to my pocket.
Of course I wear trousers, it would probably been alright with jeans.

I do think a more reasonable comparison would be to compare those SOG's to the Spyderco Full Flat Ground, Foliage Green, G-10 Endura and Delica, or their Military and Para-Military. The FRN Endura's and Delica's are workhorse/value entry level Spyderco's designed for EDC, and as you noted, only cost half the price of the SOGs to which you are comparing.

I'm not saying that the SOG is a bad knife....we all like what we like. I would just like to read what you have to say after comparing them to those Spyderco in the same price range.

I would prefer the spyderco's, The D4 is a great knife and I like its appeal more than the SOG.

Spydercos the ticket, if you like the more exspensive sog, fine. I dont believe you will be getting any performance benefits to justify the extra $50.00

I dont have a paramilitary to compare it to. I am not a liner or frame lock fan though so... I am very impressed with the kershaw JYD 2 though.
I am not a thumbstud fan either but on the visionary im not really bothered.

Im guessing that most of the cost goes to pay for the lock system.
Ok so maybe it wasnt the best comparison given the price.

Here is a Picture of the visionary II that I sold..
Very nice knife.. But the steel was very soft IMO, at least compared to other VG-10 that I have owned... and the handle was too flexible... Yet it was very comfortable and lightweight...

The Para uses a compression lock. I find it easier to manipulate than liner or framelocks. If you haven't tried it, they're worth giving a shot.
