I own a SOG Vulcan - very happy with the knife overall. However, I find that the edge retention is terrrible.
I use the knife as an EDC, and it only gets very light use - some limited cutting/carving, but mainly food prep. I notice the edge has a tendency to roll ... I have not experienced the chipping problem that I've seen others mention. The knife definitely does not get abused. I did some cutting recently and the knife came into moderate contact with a ceramic plate, causing a large section of the edge to roll.
The steel seems very soft compared to other steels I own, and certainly compared to what I would expect from VG-10.
Has anybody else had experience with SOG's VG-10? Is this a problem with SOG, or did I just get a lemon, or am I just expecting too much?
I like the knife, but more and more I'm starting to see SOG as a "looks over substance" manufacturer, especially compared to my Benchmade and Spyderco knives.
