so last week I go into a surplus store and check out a sog vulcan I love it so I order 3 online. I get my knives and two have vertical blade play the ark lock is so late its hitting the washers they both have different blade grinds on the san-mai part of the blade the third one is perfect I sent the two bad ones back then I went to the surplus store and asked to see all the ones they had in stock they had three not including the display wich is perfect. Out of the three two are as bad as the ones I returned I would buy the good ones but they want $200 each so it looks like I'am using the money for a benchmade.

Maybe if you ordered 30 you'd get 3 good ones ;) sorry to hear you had a tough experience, but I'm glad to hear you're moving on to benchmade.

all the benchmades I have are all perfect and I should have just stuck with them but I love the vulcan tanto blade shape good news is I am getting another 810 contego.

Vulcan was the only knife I've ever returned

Was going to return my Caly 3.5 but kept it for a gift some day

It's unfortunate, I think the Vulcan has a very striking look to it. Modern, but classy. It was on my "to get" list. But has since been removed due to too many negative reviews of it. Which is unfortunate.

I have a Vulcan, that I bought when they first came out. It's quite nice, but too large a knife for me to feel comfortable carrying. I have the Mini-Vulcan and much prefer it. It is just about perfect also in terms of craftsmanship. I bought the Mini at the Blade Show shortly after it came out from the SOG folks. If it wasn't right, I would have handed it back to them.

That's a shame to hear. I'm a fan of the Arc lock. My Arcitech rivals any Axis knife I've had. Sounds like Sog needs to step up their qc, big time.

I was pretty bumed out I really love this knife at least one of the three I ordered was perfect and in my pocket right now.

I'm a little surprised that my Arcitech has some vertical blade play being that it's one of SOG's higher priced knives. I still like carrying it more than my Griptilian and my 710 though. The Vulcan is a nice looking knife, but I passed on it because of the Zytel handles. I got the carbon fiber Tomcat instead. That knife turned out perfect.

My advice would be if you really like the Vulcan, go ahead and buy it. If it doesn't meet your standards right out the box you can always return it. But don't let other people's opinions turn you away. The Benchmade 707 Sequel gets super high marks every time its mentioned. So i bought one. But you know what? It got carried once and has been sitting in my desk drawer ever since. It just didn't feel right in my hand. And I can't return it cuz I scuffed the handle a little bit. Anyway, the point is I guess you just gotta decide for yourself. I know SOG gets a lot of negative comments, especially on these forums, but to be honest one of the most dependable knives I've ever owned was a SOG. I actually started a recent thread on it here if you care... http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...Second-Trident-or-Proving-SOG-Naysayers-Wrong
