I just received my sog vulcan a few days ago and it is bad ass. This knife has the thickest stock (for a folder) that I've ever seen .16". The knife feels great in the hand and the lock up is nice and sturdy. The only complaint I have is that I don't want to break it in! The knife has a nice satin finish and I just can't bring myself to ruin the beautiful looking blade. So, since I don't want to ruin MY blade, is there anyone out there that has put Their vulcan to the test? If so, do tell and give details on how it performs.

How does it ride in the pocket? Looks like I might be getting one soon, and I wanted to know if it would be well suitable (size wise, etc.) for every day carry. Thanks.

To help the thread, the vulcan has VG-10 steel which is a vast improvement from their other folders that have AUS8. VG-10 will hold up much better, and it takes a great edge. Dont be afraid to use it.

I know the steel is very good, but when you get yours you'll see what I mean, I would rather beat up my old emerson commander than put a scratch on this thing. The vulcan does go very nicely in the pocket, it has a very discrete pocket clip, when it is on your pants the knife itself is not visible but the clip stands out. The knife handles great and is worth every penny!

Sorry about all the questions =P . Does the blade flipper actually help blade deployment? Does the knife still require alot of wrist action when deploying the blade with the flipper? Does it ever get in the way when flicking it closed? Thanks.

edit: I just really cant find any info on it, and this knife really intrests me.

I looked at and handled several....silky smooth........no pressure hardly at all needed to open using any method.

Robbie Roberson ;)

I love the flipper used with this lock. They definately beat everybody to the punch with that.

It's probably possible to open the blade with just the flipper (think Kershaw Junk Yard Dog), but I use my wrist as well. I don't need to use as much wrist as with a SOG without the flipper, just a little.

So far I've never had a problem with the flipper getting in the way while flipping it closed.

I'm anxiously awaiting the mini-Vulcan (sometime early 2008) as the Vulcan is larger than what I typically like to EDC.

I agree with the guys above, the flipper is great and since the blade has a nice weight to it, the blade almost falls into position just by touching the flipper. I've never had any problems with it opening in my pocket either just to let you know.

I like mine. If you keep it in a back pocket, it's seems like the clip might be a bit rough on car seats. The blade just slides open with a slight wrist action. It is not easy to open one handed with just the flipper such as you might with a Sypderco.

Since I know very little about SOG knives, I wanted to ask before I purchased a folder. Is this a high grade blade mfg in Seki, Japan or a cheaper, Tiawan mfg blade?

The blades are made in seki, japan. The vulcan is a great knife and I finally broke it in. It holds its edge very well and the blade is very thick. I am happy with this knife and I would highly recommend it.

How thick is the handle of this bad boy? Does anyone know if it is thicker or thinner than say an endura 4? Also, is the pocket clip tip up or tip down? For once I'm intersted in a non-spyderco/benchmade, so any help would be fantastic. Thanks!

The pocket clip sets the knife right out of plain sight with the exception of the clip itself. The knife sits with the tip up, so when you pull the knife out of your pocket all you have to do is touch the finger flipper and it opens right into position. This is a very nice knife for the money, I really would have expected it to have been around 200 dollars. The handle is very nice, since you are familiar with benchmades, it looks about the same size as a griptilian, except the blade appears to be twice as thick and a lot sturdier. With a simple tightening with a torx bit, the knife has zero play and is still able to be opened very smoothly. Hope this helps, J.
