i have an aus8 spec elite I that i edc and the tip has chipped off and for the life of me i dont know how it happened, i dont pry stuff with my blades. i emailed sog and a lady replied that i can send it in and they will do a hardness test on it and if the test comes up short then they will replace the blade. if the hardness test passes then they will regrind the tip.

does anyone know if there was a problem with the aus8 steel not meeting spec?

These has been no problem with the AUS 8 steel meeting spec but occasionally there are anomalies in the steel making process. This could have caused a weak point that just happened to line up with the tip of your knife. I hope this helps to explain.

I had a Flash II that I sent to SOG for repair. Lindsay was fantastic to work with and it seemed as I had just sent the knife to SOG and it was back to me. Best part about it was there was no charge for the repair. Customer Service does not get any better than Lindsay gave me. Sent your knife to SOG with confidence.
