SOG x-42 field knife question

[ I'm seeking my first "good knife" (currently I use a simple Mora 5" fixed blade). I'm considering the SOG x-42 field knife. I don't see it listed on the SOG website, so perhaps it's discontinued.

I'm learning about the various steel metallurgy. I was thinking of the Entek Javelina with it's 440C blade. Then I came across the BG-42 steel bladed X-42 field, then I found out about the X-42 made with S30V (if I can find one).

Is there that much difference between the BG-42 and S30V at a Rockwell hardness of ~59?

Anyone have a good used one they are selling? Or have a lead on a new one? A "second" would be ok, as long as it was in good shape. I would like to get the kydex sheath/scabbard for it.

I'm new here, and appreciate the practical advise I've read so far. I guess the way I'm thinking, it's either the S30V bladed SOG X-42 field knife or the Entrek Javelina ( 4 5/16" blade, 440c,

The other knife I was considering was the RG Russel Canadian boat knife (http://www.agrussell.com/knives/by_purpose/hunting/d_h_russell_canadian_boat_knife.html.) It's steel is listed as "High Carbon German stainless."
From an email from Russell: "Grohmann takes pride in their products and that means using high quality materials. Grohmann's most popular steels in the outdoor fixed blade knives are fashioned from european high carbon stainless steels, such as 4110, which is comparable to the U.S. 440 series. This steel has stood the test of time due to its ease of sharpening and edge holding ability." So I'm guessing it's not 440C, or else they would make note of that "quality" feature. How does "4110" compare to 440 series? 440B? 440A?

I just like the simple swept back drop point design. Any comments on THAT knife (I know, this is a SOG area-but appreciate comments).

Thanks in advance.

Catboat, welcome to BladeForums :D , maybe the link below will help, notice the X-42 listing and contact SOG to see if they have any seconds to purchase. If they do, it will be priced much lower since it is a second. Also, read the description of the knives sold as seconds, from what I have heard from other forum members, they are almost perfect and perform as such.
Hope this helps................ ;)
