Haven't used my knife much lately but carry it everyday clipped to my BDU pocket (MP @ Fort Myer). Took it out and there's a bunch of rust on it!!! WTH happened to stainless steel? First knife I've ever used that has rusted on me, carbon or otherwise. I'll use my old Kabar to cut wet vegetation, wipe it off after I'm finished and leave it in it's leather sheath for months w/o any protectant - no rust at all.

Is it the bead blast?? If so, I'm never getting a bead blast again.

As always, there's a positive note on this - now I have an excuse to get an ATR:D

BUT...is the ATR going to rust on me:(?...all I need is a $180 knife going to crap.

I'm sure you've heard all this before, but here goes.

STainless doesn't mean rust proof.

Yes, bead blast can make a blade omre prone to rusting as it leaves a lot of little microvoids.

That being said, it dcdan also be less prone to rusting with proper care, as those microvoids can trap and hold oil jsut as easily as they can trap and hold water.

Keep it ioled.

WHen I've had this problem before(Gerber and Buck hunting knives, both bead blasted), I jsut lightly cleaned it up with fine steel wool soaked in oil.

WOn't make any noticable effect on look of bead blast finish, but will remove the rust and start the oil into the knife. Though after rust has started, would clean as I said, clean it up well with acetone or carb cleaner, then reapply oil after said cleaner dries.

Sorry, shoulda included that in answer first time around

On those rare occasions when I neglect one of my knives, a little Flitz polish on a soft rag takes off the rust without scratching the blade. The tube says the polish also protects against corrosion, but I always oil afterwards.
