Hello everybody

I'm thorn between SOG Zoom vs. Khershaw Blur; and having a hard time to decide for just one to purchase next.

Anyone owning both could post some comments on preference ?... a side by side picture for comparison would help too.

Thanks a lot in advance, guys !

I like this "type" of knife -- light, assisted opening,inexpensive... user. I've had both the zoom and blur. Both are excellent. The Zoom imo has the edge over the blur because it is such a great knife, clip, blade, and handle design again imo I think make it a better knife for me. Others in the same genre I've found to be great: kershaw piston and knockout, sog flashback and flash 2, and benchmade barrage...

Just looked up SOG Zoom....its kinda cool, but you can't go wrong with a Blur! :D

I've never had a SOG folder that I consider good quality. Even the ones that came decent develop play like crazy really quickly. OTOH, I have 4 Blurs, just ordered a 5th a few days ago, and haven't had a single issue with any of them.

I am a reasonably big SOG fan and collector. But my A/O is a Kershaw Blur in S30V. I own and have owned a number of SOG Folders and it is my opinion
that Kershaw's Speedsafe System is far superior to SOG's S.A.T. system. The only SOG folders that I recommend are the Seki made arc lock models.

I own Blurs in the double digits
-and several other Kershaw models as well

I own zero SOG products, (though couple have caught my eye in the past, never enough to purchase), if that helps at all...

While the two knives are comparable, size, weight, shape, etc, Dollar for dollar hands down IMO the Blur is the better knife. The sandvik and bdz1 models (comparable to Aus 8) are a good bit cheaper, and for the cost of the zoom you can upgrade to an s30v Blur. And while i can't speak specifically on the zoom here, consistency in build quality between US made Kershaw vs. SOG in general, Kershaw again wins the bet...

Thanks a lot for your comments and feedback, guys !

I think I'll go for the Blur, then

Regards.

Yup. I am also a SOG fan but most of their new stuff is far too mallninja and way over priced. For the money you can do much better elsewhere than any of the SOG SAT folders. The blade play alone is more than most people can tolerate. The Seki folders are on another level. I personally never took to the blur. Nice enough knife. It was great deassisted. Lots of configurations to choose from. If you like the look and form it is a good value.

The Blur is great unless you are a lefty. The Zoom looks like the handle could be a hit or miss depending on your hand. Here is a side by side comparison w/ specs.

The obvious problem with a snap shot like that is the blur comes in about a million different configurations.

Agreed, I chose the Blur with the closest price and the specs would be mostly the same between the other configurations.

I have the full size SOG zoom and use to love it. The knife doesn't have good traction for your index finger(lacks a finder grove or high traction material) . Once when cutting my hand slipped forward and I sliced my index finger really bad. Since then I haven't use that knife. Was really disappointed when they came out with the new zoom in S30V that they did not approve that issue. The have great ergonomics first all the other fingers and great gimping.... But, no finger grove with traction for your index finger.

And the problem with that is when comparing s30v to AUS8 at the same price the less informed will not notice how way over priced the SOG is.

It would be more helpful to compare similar materials or explain the price difference problems.

Blur all day, tho I haven't handled that particular SOG. The blur is a more functional design IMO, while the SOG looks kinda tacticool to me. Also, as someone mentioned, S30v or 14cr28mov on the blurs are both superior to aus8. S30v in particular.

I own both. The Zoom really snaps open with assisted open and can be locked closed. The Blur is really smooth with a very well designed thumbstud to open the blade. Either knife is worth the price and really I don't have a favorite between the two. You have more options with the blur with regards to finishes and steels.

Would you mind to post a pic of both side by side (one over, one under) ?... I'm wondering about the lengths and blades width.
