Hi all,

Please allow me to introduce myself, I am B2D, head of SOG's DOGs. We are
currently running a contest which revolves around primitive-method fire-lighting with the use of only a knife or tool. If any of you would be interested,
please visit us at the SOG's DOG's DOG-HOUSE, conviently located in the SOG-Forum. Participants must join & be issued an official number, after joining
a participant must post a reply, "I accept the SOG's DOG's Challenge!" & present your member # & i.d.

Prizes are ranks. So, if you are uninterested in seriously joining the club, we aren't currently offering prizes other than ranks, & so this is all there is to win.
But, for a serious member, that is, in my own opinion, a good prize plus it comes with bragging rights! :) Please drop a line if you are interested. Please read
the contest details & rules in the DOG-House carefully, any questions may be sent directly to me personally.

Oh, to contribute here--I often use fat-pine sticks to start fires, I hold the edge of my knife at a close angle & create a fine dust & powder, which I've found easily & quickly takes a spark! Mix that with some shavings, & getting a fire is simple.

Plz come see us at the DOG-House!!

With scrapings it doesnt have to be fatwood. You can use any wood, as long as its dry. Same tech, same results. Firecraft is never simple. It can and will kick your butt.

How is that "contributing"? All im seein is a new member who started a club cross spamming the forum with this sogdog stuff. Oh, also if you are wanting folks to enter your contests, maybe you should open it up to everyone. Not just SOG owners. If not, then I believe it should stay over in Sogs forum.

Sorry to be a bit blunt, nothing personal. Im all for skills contests, just not ones that exclude folks.

Not trying to spam anyone--I'm new to forums..very new, I'm trying to get the hang of it. Yeah, you can do it with any wood-shavings or powders, but it has seemed to be to me a little easier with pine & is often what I have on hand. There are many different methods to light a fire primitively. Charred-cloth. Shavings. Feather-sticks. Petroleum (sorry if I mispell) jelly on cottonballs. Cottonballs (especially if fuzzed). Lint from clothing such as a pair of jeans or sweatpants. Sock lint. Um..flint--if a person can find a piece--I've never even held a piece in hand. I believe I've even heard of waxing the bottom of a soda can & creating an improvised lens. I know this can be done with glass bottles though I've never done it before. Magnifiying glasses, bi-focals, camera-lenses. Then there are the friction methods--such as handdrills & bowdrills, pressure-friction, & this can even be done, I've seen with a length of vine or paracord, pulling it through cut notches in a stick of dry wood. I've often even used pine-resin as a gel-like spread on shavings &
easily gotten a fire burning even with damp materials.

I only mentioned the contest because we like that sort of stuff, too. I thought maybe some people here might be interested--I want not trying to spam anyone. Not sure what cross spamming is either.

I've also seen fat-pine sticks attached to keyrings--which is why I specifically mentioned pine. I've also learned that sparks can be gotten off the spine of a carbon (rather than stain-steel) steel knife, with a sharp blow from a hardstone such as flint or granite. Altoid tins, I have heard, but never
tried, are useful for making char-cloth pieces.

I never intended to or was even aware I was 'spamming' anyone. My apologies. I was trying to contribute & share. If I am a bother any of you need only say so, & I will not post here again--it has never been my intention to offend, annoy, or bother anyone on these forums. I am simply excited about SOG's DOG's, & I have often posted stuff about survival skills & such on other forums, where it was well-accepted & I had many regular readers.
Like I said, I am very new to forums & posting & all the lingos & such but I try hard. You know what--I'll stick to Sog's Forum, it is not my intention to spam or offend. Maybe I can post here when I've become more accustomed to forums. Again, my apologies. :(

Oh, I forgot--sorry--it is NOT our intention to exclude anyone. It is limited to our club because I cannot afford rewards as other clubs are able--all I can offer are titles in the club. My apologies if it was accepted that way. It was, again, not my intention to exclude or offend anyone. You are right, J Williams,
& I admit that (although I was not--intentionally, or even aware it was--spamming. Again, my apologies. You're right--I'll stay over in Sog's forum.

Also, J Williams, you did not come across as blunt, I see your post as being polite. I have had people mis-interpret my posts before, & I have been treated very poorly, of which I have grown somewhat accustomed. It's fine. I also do not take it personally, nor do I believe you treated me poorly. I will admit that it DID infact
hurt my feelings. I was quick in my 'contribution', but I'm so busy, & right now I am very sick, so much so that it is difficult for me to even sit here & post on a forum.
I have had considerable trouble keeping food & fluids down lately--I am getting better, however. I apologize for the shortness of my 'contribution'--which I re-read &
I should have seen it earlier. However, at the time, I thought it was good--& simple, which is the basis of my own survival practices--keeping it simple. I apologize again for any misunderstanding. I thought, since the basis IS primitive fire-starting, that this would have been a sensible place, I was wrong--of course, for which I
apologize. (Though, I can tell you, I remember sitting, years ago, at my PC in blizzard's battle.net trying to chat with friends or find someone to play a game with, &
spammers would come along, filling up the screen with irritating 'advertisments' & gibberish. Which is why I took offense to being refered to as a spammer--they often really irritated me back then. Now, though, I just ignore it.)

Best regards & wishes..

I apologize, i was a bit harsh, spam wasnt the right word i think......I want you to stay and jump in an contribute!!!! I was confused by the nature of the post. I thought you were wanting to do a contest for skills, and it turned out you had to join a club and do it with a Sog blade to participate. I was suggesting that maybe you should open it up for anyone, and for those who wanted to join your club and compete within the members could do so too. I think if your gonna post it over here, every WSSer should be welcome regardless of what brand of steel is on the hip.

No, j Williams, you were not at all harsh--you had every right. Yes, I didn't think my post clearly, but seeing as I've been so sick, it's been hard for me just to sit here & post stuff. Plus, I have a LOT going on right now. I honestly
didn't mean to exclude anyone. I'd never do that. It's just that we only recently got our blessing to start the club, & we are all very excited about it & pleased. I like to share. The reason I couldn't open it up to everyone is because we really can't offer a reward, & a title is really something on a member'd likely want. I wish I could open a contest for everyone with a nice reward, but I really can't afford anything right now. (Moving soon, getting married..I have a child now..it's all happening so FAST....)

But thank you for inviting me to stay! That makes me feel better, actually! That's why I like to spend time on this forum, bc the people are so nice & posting & sharing takes my mind off of my illness. I'm also a bit weary of opening contests because alot of people (myself included) don't have the equipment to participate. (I also don't know anyone, personally, whom has any equipment I could borrow). Steel is steel, really--I've used all different sorts...I even started out a long time ago playing with rambo knives :D! LoL!

I probably can't contribute much, but I'll try & share what I know (I'm also not too good with words :), but I try hard). And thank you again for inviting me to stay & contribute :) It's very kind of you.
