So, a friend & I stopped by a gun store that specializes in LE gear. We didn't know it at the time, but they had a bunch of vendors showing off their wares & some nice sales. I went looking through the "bargain bins" & picked up a NIB SOG X-42 Autoclip for $25! This model is the full size SE Tanto in BG-42 at 60 RC. They actually had some W/O the box for $20, but I decided to spend the extra $5 for the box.

I probably should've picked up 1 W/O the box to use & 1 with the box to hold onto. All of X-42's were full-size SE Tanto Autoclips, but they seem to be a decent knife.

I heard that they were reviving the Autoclip. It was a staple of their lineup for a long time. I didn't know that it had been disco'd (and I may still be wrong about that) but there seemed to be a lot of people that wanted it back.

That's good to know, although I think $25 for NIB even if they're coming back is a good price.

The autoclip feature is OK. I don't think it's that necessary, but overall, the knife's decent & there's nothing under $100 (That I know of) with BG-42.

They made the auto clips in large, and small. SE, and PE. Ti ( black), and plain. In addition, I have some marked are RC 60, and some at RC 62.

I've always wondered why the hardness was changed. Were there problems at RC 62?

The RC 62 model was chisel ground, the RC 60 is regular.

There's got to be a story there.

Wow......you should go back and buy ALL of the BG-42 if they are the originals.

There will be no more.

You could easily double your money for these almost any where.........or save them back and never need another good knife.

The auto clip on these are the original..........not the current production.

I have several with the original clips and they are tough as nails and handy as pockets.

I would gladly give 20 bucks each for new (originals) BG-42 without boxes all day long.

Robbie Roberson.

Yes, I should've bought one W/O the box for $20 to use & kept the $25 one with box. But oh well, at least I have a BG-42 Autoclip.

These were all Autoclip version with SE Tanto blades & BG-42 marked with 60 RC.

I like it better than the X-Ray Vision I have, although I still am sorry I got rid of the Night Vision I had (G-10 version with full SS liners & polished ATS-34 CE Tanto blade). Oh well, we live & learn.

the basic knife may not have been a particular hot favorite (x-plains why i never had one), but BG42 @ $20 ???!!
is not an everyday thing.
