Id like a solar battery charger that will recharge all types of batteries AA, AAA, 9V, CR123...

Cost is not an issue.

Please give some recommendations. Id like it to be fairly rugged or at least stand up to some abuse in a pack.

thanks.

I'm kind of in the same boat but looking for something to specifically charge certain electronic devices.

Have you looked at these:

I'm in the idea stage of building my own solar charger. I say idea stage because so far the charge time is the main concern, making it almost not worth while.

Most of the reasonable solar chargers I've seen simply do not have enough output current to charge any decent capacity battery in one day, and certainly nothing small enough to pack. That said, there are a number of setups out there with on-board Li-Ion batts to allow 1 or 2 complete recharges even if you don't have enough sun.

I need to start finding the parts needed for a modular system that will output at least 450-500 mA @ 5V, but I would like to run a 12V system and just use some type of converter to step down the voltage where appropriate. Basic goal is for this to be able to charge my cell phone, AAA and AA NiMH batts, have a 12v cig outlet and maybe even some 6v alligator clips for my bike light batt.

Of course, this will probably cost more to make than its really worth, but man would it be cool!

How about the Solar Roll from Brunton? Three different sizes, ranging from 6.4 oz/4.5 watts output to 17 oz/9 watt output.

Edit: I just saw on their website that they actually have a bunch of other portable solar panels. I don't have any experience with these, but am intrigued.

If you got the money, I would recommend a fold up or roll up solar charger with 20 Watts minimum or greater. The reason for 20 watts or greater is that it quickly charges batteries and fully powers cell phones and GPS's with out any batteries. The military versions would be ideal but they are way overpriced.

Look Ma, no batteries.... So what if batteries have a 3 year life, this is a backup emergency way out.
