Does anybody have any experience with these? Silva and Brunton (and others) make them. I am looking for those that charge small batteries such as AA, etc.

My sister lives in the Solomon Islands. The electricity supply is unreliable and there is plenty of sun. She hasn't found the solar chargers very useful. Slow charging. She charges batteries on the regular supply - when it is working. A good fast mains charger can fill a 2000 mAH set of AA batteries in an hour or less. Takes days with the solar chargers.
Solar chargers are a common piece of kit that aid workers & Peace Corps people bring and there seems to be general consenus that it is something they stop using after a few weeks. Better results with the larger and more expensive ones - but that starts to eat into budget and weight when you are travelling.
