I was looking at getting the solar powered charger by Powerfilm, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with it or others.

I ran into an old college buddy of mine a couple of months ago. He is now VP of Engineering for PowerFilm Solar. I ended up with one of that exact charger.

This is really a neat product!

Leave it in the sun for a few hours and two AA cell batteries in the charger will charge. You can take those batteries out and use them in anything which uses a pair of AAs. Or, you can plug the charger into any device which uses USB as a power source and the charger will power or charge that device. Or, leave the charger in the sun while plugged into a device such as an iPhone and you can do both.

I have an iPhone. They are picky about chargers. And the PowerFilm charger works fine with my iPhone.

So, I think this is a very handy product to have.

I don't have a Powerfilm, but a Goal Zero 7w ....its larger with a 3 panel fanfold (2 solar panels) and 12v barrel and USB ports (about $80 retail)... it is the stand alone panel not the kit, so did not come with charger...a microprocessor AA/AAA charger with 12v plug was about $20 and can charge 4 Sanyo AA Eneloops in about 4 hours...my Motorola Razr uses a mini USB and was disappointed that more adapters did not come with the basic PV cell (comes with USB to DC jack ~6v), but the 12v barrel works with my car chargers for both cell phone and Garmin GPS... am standardizing my small stuff with AAs for hurricane season....backup for the generator, and hopefully can charge a 12 auto battery used for small fan (gets pretty warm without A/C in Fla)

I use this "Dr. Solar" charger often. Takes about 3 hours to fully charge my iPhone, about the same size as the phone, and easy to use.
