Soldering steel to aluminum guard?

Any trick to this? Is it doable? I have no problems making it work with brass, but the solder doesn't stick to the aluminum. Is it something to do with different soldering temps on the materials?

I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Very few solders will stick to aluminum and those are aluminum based. I don't know of any off hand that will stick to both aluminium and steel.

Hi Mike,

it is possible to soft solder aluminium and steel but you need special solders and special fluxx.
Contact http://www.multicore.com/ , they offer a special solder, called ALU-SOL, wich is for soft soldering aluminium, steel and stainless steel.
