soldering vs heat treated steel?

Do any of the plumbing solders adversely affect heat treated steel?

Specific example: I am planning on using some silver solder to make some fishing lures, so the solder will be in contact with the hook.

At what temperature ranges do we need to worry about screwing up heat treatments?

Thanks

Heat treat is a function of time as well as temperature.

Silver solder melts at something like 850F, which is definitely hot enough to affect heat treat.
But soldering takes such a short time, you would not affect heat treat.

No ! Silver SOLDER melts atabout 400-450 F ! If the hooks are stainless steel m,ake sure the flux is marked "for SS "
Silver BRAZE melts at much higher temperature about 900 F or higher .

Big difference between solder and braze and I've spent many years trying to teach people about it !

Any new solder and flux combinations for soldering 416 SS guards to SS blades?

Those two should solder with a silver solder [ 95Sn, 5Ag ] or similar with 'for stainless' flux. That melts at about 450F .Of course you have to get both bolster and part of the blade to that temperature .
