Found a unusual small solid copper hatchet head in a box at a auction today. It's 4" long and 2.5" at the blade ..
Anybody have any info they can share.

Without images it will be difficult to help. That being said, it's possible it's a non-sparking axe made of beryllium copper, which is highly toxic if you inhale dust from it, so do not file or grind it without getting a positive identification.

I tried sending images this time and months before but this site wouldn't accept them .. Thank you for reminding me of beryllium and I thought of a non sparking hatchet for dangerous situations but research showed no info for me so far.

I googled using different wording and now the beryllium / copper non sparking crash axes and tools pop up which helps a lot even though this head is smaller and a very simple style. Thanks for your input.

The shape of this small axe is a simple American or Kentucky style like the tomahawk carried by General Samuel Hopkins and many buffalo hunters later on.

Really frustrating spending hours trying to upload images and then even to try and use a hosting service .. I'm done with this waste of time.

go to imgbb upload your image, click on the image after it's done uploading it will bring you to a screen with just your picture, after right click it and copy image address then come here click the little image icon left of the smiley face, after you do that click the chain link icon by URL then paste your link in that and hit insert.

I don't understand one word of the above instructions on ways to post photos to this site.
HEADS UP TO THE BLADE FORUM--THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE (MOSTLY SENIORS) WHO HAVE INTERESTING KNIVES, AXES, ETC. AND NEED VERY SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS TO POST PICTURES. Why does this have to be any different than posting a picture to a email ?

Wha-la and presto magisto .. took a little tinkering to get the photos up but the force came through and took pitty on this poor suffering pleb .
I'm 78 years old and been using apple computers since 1990 and usually can figure these things out .. dragging and dropping is a breeze but this was a bit frustrating and glad for the help and hope others can use the info imparted here by others to do the same.

Mostly because it costs SOMEONE money to host images. Paid memberships cover the cost, which allows us to directly upload photos. But if not paying for the storage space here, then a hosting site that uses advertising revenue to cover those expenses can be used instead, and the link to the image used here to point to their online storage. Think of it like renting a storage unit. Either you pay for one here or you pay for one next door and open the door to it and yell for everyone who's over here to look at what's in your unit across the street.

Every time that you show an image to someone online the retrieval of that image costs the host a bit of money. In the case of email, only your recipient is going to see it, so it doesn't result in a lot of traffic. In the case of forums like this where anyone can see stuff, that data cost adds up a lot faster.

You can, you just need to upload them to a free image hosting site. Then right click the images and copy their web address and then click "Insert Image" on the post and then "by URL" and paste that image address in it.

You can post images here without a paid account, you just can't HOST them here without a paid account. There are lots of different image hosting sites out there that make money off ad revenue etc. that are happy to host the images and then you just link them here.
