Quick question regarding the contact wheels. The wheel is 8" and serrated and is free-wheeling (not the drive wheel).

Pros and Cons (no offense to Jailhack)

Please adise as I have an expensive decision to make based on your input.

Thanks

Dav, the solid wheel will grind more smoothly and more slowly. It is also better for finishing. If I had to choose just one, especially getting started, it would be the solid. Later on you might want to get a serrated wheel for hogging steel faster. I use both, but mostly the solid.

I used a serrated wheel for almost 4 years then got a smoothy. Didn't realize what I was missin till I put the smoothy on. Man is it nice!!!!

Interesting... I have both but have never tried the smoothy! I was just always happy with the serrated and never thought to try smoothy.

So do I understand correctly that the smoothy will be a better finishing wheel, ie for final polishing?

L6,
Do you rough grind on your smoothy too?

Thanks
Al

My 4" & 8" are both serrated. I am however saving my coins for a smooth 8 or 10" wheel. Jerry is exactly right from what I can tell (at least this time
