Are there any Spyderco folders that have the solid feel, weight and lock up of the Wegner and Wegner Jr with the full length SS liners?

Are you refering to an all steel Endura?? Maybe, or something with a G-10 handle and full liners??

Sorry, should have been more specific. I was referring to folders with G10 scales full and partial liners.

Though not a liner lock, the G10 Standard has a similar feel in many respects. Both knives have a nice solid feel because of the thickness of their respective blades. To be perfectly honest though, I have both knives and tend to carry the Wegner Jr. more often. Still, if you don't have a Standard and you like a nice hefty feel in a smaller knife, you ought to get one. Check out SMKW. They may still have these knives at good prices.

Guyon,
I know what you mean about the Wegner Jr....I have just got a Military and a Starmate and although they are both fantastic big folders, they dont have the same solidity to them as the Wegner Jr. I have yet to try a folder with SS handles to see how they are. A Harpy may be in order....

Hi Ken.
The old C-10 Standard is pretty tough in G-10.
The liner applies only to one side but it is really thick.
The knife in itself is the closest to the Wegners, IMO.

Hey Bill,
I havent had a play with the Standard before.... it has never really grabbed my attention. But thanks for the info. Oh, a bit off topic but I remember you mentioning about the Wegner Jrns that you have that the liner travels across the rear of the blade and touches the inside of the G10 scale on the opposite side. Well this has happened with my Wegner Jr but I prefer it....much more solid lock up. Are there any downsides that you can see?

Ken,
Good memory!
My Wegner ('s) both now have their liner locks resting against the opposite scale.
So far, they have not developed any blade play.
It was unsetteling to me how rapidly they moved across the blade base.
I sent one of them back to Spyderco for a check-up. It was returned with the message that it was OK.
Back to the Standard, it's hard to see the stoutness by viewing photos. The knife is pretty thick and heavy duty. Probably 1/8" thicker than the Wegner Jr. Also, the clip is mounted high on the scale allowing almost invisible carry.
I really like them.
Bill

I have both the (G-10 scales) Wegner/Spyderco "Clip-Its", and I just have to say that, metal "liners" or not, these are both VERY strong folders!.

Ken,

FWIW the liner on my Wegner Jr quite quickly moved to the far scale but, as you say, lock up remained sound. However it eventually developed vertical blade play as the liner wore further. I returned it to Customer Service who replaced it, albeit with a different knife as there were no more plain edge Juniors available

. I've heard of this happening with a number of Wegner Jrs. and wonder if it's a common problem. BTW, just so I don't sound ungrateful, I'm extremely happy with the knife I received in place of the Wegner

, thanks Angela.

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow....in Australia it's tomorrow already.

Generally do lockbacks have a much more secure lockup compared to linerlocks? I was playing with my Merlin and although it only has Zytel scales, once locked out, its really solid.

I don't know about the secure lock-up comparison, but I think the lockback has a longer lifespan.
I have a 15 year old s/s Delica that is tight as a safe.
I really prefer liner locks when it comes to the position of the lock release as you do not need to change the knife's position in your hand. Lockbacks must be rotated 180'.
My disappointment with my Wegners is that I have numerous other liner locks that are not showing rapid movement of the locking bar
(Leopard Cub, Spydeco Toad, MOD Trident, Socom, Klotzli). I think the steel in the Wegner's locking bar is softer than the others.
Other than that, the Wegner Jr. is by far my most comfortable Spyderco.
I even used to dress out a few deer.
I guess if I focus just on the single aspect of locking integrety, the lockback provides greater confidence than the linerlock.
