I have a bayonette, which is probably a dress bayonnette which is in good shape but has some deep scratches. I am not interested in resale. I want it to look good for me. It is a nazi bayonette (WWII). Is this thing chrome plated or can i buff out the scratches and still get a miiror shine?

You should be able to tell if it's chrome plated by examining the edges of the scratches with a magnifying glass. You can have it re-chromed, but that will destroy any collector value if that matters to you.

If it isn't chromed, you can buff it to mirror shine on a powered buffer if you are skilled with these tools.
