Can anyone tell me about this? My great grandfather brought it to America when he immigrated from Germany so I am guessing it is circa 1890. The scabbard appears to be bamboo with brass fittings. The wood is cracked and dinged up in spots. It is missing the bottom cap. The blade is sort of rusty but in decent shape. It measures just under 31 1/4 inches. If you don't count the hilt portion of it it is just under 28 inches long. The blade is stamped Solingen on two sides and has a mark that I can't quite make out. It looks something like this: *----O----* with an S in the middle of the O. The stick when all put together is 34 inches long. As you can see in the picture it everything is separated on it. How would I go about fixing it? Is it worth anything? Also, I live in Illinois and if it is fixed up it would be illegal as being a concealed weapon I think. Is there an exception for antiques? Thanks a lot for your help. Here is the picture: http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/1241/1000164bv.jpg Sorry, I don't have a better camera. The Swiss Army knife is there so you can better judge the cane sword's size. I assume you all know how big those knives are.
