well while digging up history on Solingen germany today I came across something disturbing. It seems that there is a city in china named solingen!!!! so what do you think? coincidence that they have the same name as one of the worlds leading cutlery cities?
hmmmmmmm...sounds strangely piculiar!!!!

anyone ever heard this before?

That's one of the big things that's annoying. A lot of these crappy brands buy German/Solingen steel steel, and mark their knives Solingen - China, Pakistan, etc..., except the real country of origin is marked in ink, so all one has to do is wipe that marking away....

How about when it says 'Made in USA', but USA is a city in china or japan...

How about knives from a well known German Co. made in China, shipped back to Germany, marked made in Germany, & sold at expensive prices!!:( Buyers assume they are made in Germany!!

Kukri, whos' pulling this one? I know that in the past some beerstein companies use to pull that one.

I have a "Boker-Magnum" made in China, tho for the $8 I paid for it at a show I shouldn't complain. At the time I figured I could throw it it in the Jeep for "emergencies" and not worry about it getting ripped off. But it's such a POS I doubt it would be any use in any emergency. Bent the tip once opening a can of coffee !! Live and learn. Now its place in the Jeep has been taken by a Livesay Uji.

Even if the steel does come from Soligen,Germany it doesn't mean that it is the best that Soligen has to offer.

Yes, I also remember reading a few years ago, somewhere in a printed media, that a NEW small town was founded in China, named ”Solingen” .... and it had something to do with a cutlery industry/business

Not for nothing but this thread is nine years old. Necromancy of that extent is generally not recommended. :)
