when i found knife at antique fair, wood was so black,i thought it was ebony, but after some cleaning it become bright reddish (almost like paint  )but after few days it started getting darker ..
construction is very solid and heavy, with strong springs-real nail breaker(done that :o) )

eventful knife ;)

I have one like this, 'new old stock' with the Kissing Cranes tang stamp. Very hard spring. Big snap. I think the spike is a timber scribe... at least I have used it for that and it works well.

It looks very close to my Otter knives , try to contact them

looks like a harness jack, a bit. you could use it for a scribe/punch/awl/reamer-whatever; but it looks as though it was meant for some heavy labor! tha blade looks like a lamb's foot as well. more than that i couldn't say. get Jack Black to look at it-he and some of the others might have an idea.
thanks, Neal
