[SOLVED]I am looking at picking up a BK2 and want some opinions on which small becker to purchase as a small prep/camp knife. I am currently looking at the BK14 and the BK11. Both can be had for practically the same price. What are the pro's and con's to both? And is there another knife I should be looking into?

The BK 11 is comfy to hold.
The blade is very thick though, it is not the perfect small food prep knife , if that is what you want. It is a tough general purpose knife.

I've never handled an 11 but really love the 14. It's just the right size for me and I have medium / large hands. It fits nicely inside my waist band and works as a neck knife.

Go with the 14, the 11 looks much cooler but practially the 14 wins by alot...Not really a fan of the 11's handle.

I plan on having a mora for general food prep. Just looking for a knife for the small/detailed task that I would not need/want to deploy the BK2 for.

My hand size is between a medium and large glove. Palm fits a large glove but my fingers are short and chubby so the length is more medium.

I went to SMKW yesterday but they did not have either in stock. They did have the remora(BK13) but I did not like the 440a steel choice.

Do you want a bottle opener or a 4 finger grip? Main reason to get an 11 is the bottle opener. If you don't think you'll need/want it, 14 is probably a better choice.

you can open a bottle with almost ANYthing.

The 14 is more comfortable in the hand, if you have a very large hand at all. I find the 11 is only comfortable for ''quick tasks'' like cutting a rope or opening a package. The 14 is comfortable for prolonged tasks, like carving, meat-processing, etc

And it's even better with the factory zytel scales!

I'm with the BK14.... I know there's alot of love for the 3finger-11 but the blades being the same the handle is alot nicer on the BK14 (imo). I like the plastic scales better and they're less than half the price of the micarta..... don't need a knife to open a bottle (as noted above).

I don't have a picture of them side by side... but I'll take some tonight for a better comparison... this is an ESEE Candiru for example though and it's about what the 11 & 14 look like side by side (handles only). The BK14 has a finger guard that's shaped... well like a finger, the BK11 not so much. Don't get me wrong before the 14 came out I though the 11 was a fine but there's no comparison between the two when it comes to ergonomics (again in my opinion)

It makes a great companion to a larger knife like the BK2/7

And the BK14 is a great knife carried alone too.

If the 13/Remora had a better handle the blade size isn't bad at all for a 2nd blade. Warrior has some pics he's posted of a mod he made to the Remora by rounding the fingerguard and it came out really nice.

Do post pics or let us know what you decide on.

The BK14 it will be. I see no need for the bottle opener and would like a nice grip. Ordering the BK2 and the BK14 tonight!

Alright guys i got my two knives in this weekend. I will try to get some pictures tonight of them and post them up. Big thanks to all who helped out in the thread. I love both of these! :D And Godspeed! I will be visiting your site soon enough.

Well I see you made your choice. I would have picked the 11 with micarta handles. I have both, well 2 BK 14s and a BK 11. I purchased 2 BK 14s after loosing my edc 14 with scales ordered 2 so that wouldn't happen again. At the same time I ordered scales for the BK 11, my first Becker. The length of my 11 and 14 differ by 5/16". The real difference when both have grips is the 11 fills the hand better. The angle of the handle on the 11 is straight while the 14s handle drops. Can't go wrong with either.

Good info. I like the 11 "naked" better, but I like the Zytel-scaled 14 better than the naked 11. I'm just gonna have to break down and get the Micarta for my 11 now.

Last night I was "staring" at the Becker BK-14 online for quite a bit and contemplating my next "move" as it were. Are there any pictures of this knife in hand?
