Some advice..

While my intention in this thread is not "pick a knife for me to purchase", it's somewhat similar. I own a few knives, and recently got bit by the bug again to purchase another one. Some of the knives I currently own are a Strider SnG, (my daily edc and a fav), Manix, Commander, Rittergrip, Ares, Endura, Delica, Gravitator, a couple SAKs, and a few others.

What I'm looking for is some advice from other members on things that they consider to be quality knives for the $$ spent on them, and things that I may not have heard of or considered. For example, a freind was talking to me about Mcusta knives last week and I had heard the name but never really looked at one. I researched them a little, and they don't look half bad for the $ but they're not something I can go down the street and check out. What I'm looking to spend is approx $200, but that's ballpark. I could go up if something interests me, and down is always a plus! :)

Now some of my knives are S30V, I've found that they are prone to chipping. (Not all of mine but a couple, and they're from different manufacturers). I don't mind it, but I wouldn't mind something different also. I have no real perameters to follow, and everything would be considered. Fixed blade/folder, framelock/linerlock, Axis lock, etc., etc. The only thing I would like to mention, is no Sebenzas (already considered, and holding off for now), and I'd like to keep the blade length between 3.5 in. and 5 in. (Smaller than 3.5 is fine too if I like the knife.)It may be used for edc also, so I do want to keep it smaller than 5.

One type of knife I do not currently own and have been thinking about, is a Bali. Only thing is, I don't know jack about them. I'v only recently gotten interested in them :)

While I'm not completely ignorant of knives (and yes I've researched and used the search function), there's always lots to learn and that's why I thought I'd ask for some advice from those of you that are much more knowledgeable than me, and have first hand experience with knives that I don't. I appreciate any feedback.

I just recently purchased my first balisong in a long while. I picked up a Bradley Mayhem Balisong. This is a very nice bali and one that could be a functional edc. I would also think that the BM bali's would be a great place to start for a bali. They have some LE's out that have 440C or D2 blade steel. Try out www.autumnsedge.com for a looksee.

Thanks for the input. I was checking out one of those Bradley's. Nice piece. :) I think I'm leaning toward a bali as of right now seeing as I don't own any yet. BM's seem to be well respected, as does the Microtech Tachyon.

A "Leatherman" is a very handy thing to have around the house, shop, garage, in the car, etc.

Lucy, my automatic Protech Runt model, is my EDC. Isn't she a little beautie?!

Bali's are a breed apart. I can work them sort of. I practiced for a while with a taped up blade until I got into the swing of things, if you get my drift.

My model 42 works very well and holds a keen edge.

Have a leatherman juice and an older gerber multi-tool. :) Great pick, forgot to mention I have one. I couldn't get along without them at work. I think everyone should have a multi-tool.

Edit: That runt is a beauty, but I live in Massachusetts where autos are illegal. :(

For a bali, i would suggest a BM 42, it was my first bali and it would be a great one to start off with IMO.
For a small fixed blade, i would suggest Swamp Rats Howling Rat or a smaller Busse such as the Active Duty, Heavy Duty, Meaner Street etc...
You might also want to consider a multi-tool from Leatherman or Victorinox
