To all my friends on the forum. I have been caught in the squeeze of the rotten economy and being laid up for almost 15 months with no insurance help.

This situation is due to my own misteps and mistakes and a heartless insurance company. I am going to have to pack up all my kukris and koras and research materials till who knows when. That means the book we all wanted is not going to get done. Bill was right. Many have tried, but none have succeeded.

Unless one of you guys is a secret millionaire who wants to back this thing I will be moving on to who knows where. I just have hit the wall.

Thanks for everyones support in the past and good luck to all of us.

John,

Sorry to hear this. Hunker down and survive the storm... then come back out when the sun returns and finish your project.

John

Sorry to hear this. What kind of support are you looking for?

You've survived a hell of a lot worse than this.

Move to Reno. You get out of the high rent district + cheap food and beautiful cocktail waitresses and you can come over and help us clean khukuris -- do something useful for a change.

Uncle

Would you take me as well? Can I come to Reno and help you?:(

Sorry to hear that John:(

Best of luck for the future and don't worry about the book---we'll be here to read it whenever you get to it. Wish I had the bucks to sponsor you while you write it!

Come ahead, Man, and you don't need to bring Vanessa. There are plenty of Vanessas working at the casinos.

John, hope the view from the peak will be as bright as the walk through the valley is dark. Only way to find out is keep walking. Luck and strength to you.

Very sad news John.:( I really wish I could get that help and get that dream of yours to print. It will happen in the future so just keep on trying and it will happen! In the mean time hang here!

I think most of us have been there at one time or another. Nothing stays the same. Stay in touch with the forum.

Thanks Uncle,

I know where to look for when I need a new job then, seriously :) .

BTW

Can we set up a special fund for John to publish his book? I do not know how much John needs, but I think if all of us here and people over at SFI and EEWF join forces and donate, we will reach a considerable sum for John to publish his book.

Take good care John.

The good times and the bad times come and go. The only thing that stays the same is the changing.

You have been a great help to me in some of my bad times. I hope I can return the favor. I suspect there are others here who feel the same.

I have a new e-mail address, HowardWallace@comcast.net. Don't hesitate to write.

You're concern and messages of hanging in there are very touching and of great help. Thanks guys and please do not consider any kind of fund for me or the book. I deeply appreciate your sentiment Manoucher, but tough times effect everyone.

John,

In view of these unfortunate circumstances, we could set up an online book. We could probably either host it at Himalayan Imports/Khukuri FAQ (or my own jnanam.net site), or, preferrably, set it up at its own site (cookri-to-kukri.com ? or something like), which I could arrange for less than US$30/year.

I would be more than willing to help you set up an online version, and we could also create a .pdf file version which people could download and print out in order to have a 'hard-copy' version.

I know this isn't as appealling as an 'actual book', but it could always serve as a sort of 'prequel' to a later book.

If you're at all interested in this idea, you can email me at slade@jnanam.net .

Sorry again to hear of this situation.

best,
Ben

Beoram, that may be a good alternative, but I did not think online books were working out very well for anyone.

John

I couldn't count the number of times your knowledge has informed me over the past few years. You've been a help and encouragement to many people on this forum and there is no question in my own mind that the Almighty will see you through this period. Courage! Flip burgers if you have to, but don't give up on the book. What you know may never come together again in one person wha has the ability or desire to write as you do.

best wishes

Stephen

I know how it is. This economy is trashing the local job market. I can't wait to be employed again!

Well wishes to you and yours.

Beoram...cool idea!
