Hi,

I found my Buck 110 which I bought sometime in the 1980s and since it has 2 dots on each side it is made between 81 - 86 and the steel is 425M. How good or not so good is this steel. Seems pretty good to me when I sharpen it although I can't say about it's edge holding as yet since I didn't use it in a hard way.

I also found a Steelmaster 137 which looks like a chisel with a holder. Can any forumer tell me how do you use this?

I have also a Buck device for holding the knife for sharpening.

Thanks
Bill

IMHO 425M is a good steel, may not hold an edge just as long as the older 440C but will be easier to sharpen, most users will not see much diference, I find the new 420HC very similar to th 425M.

The Steelmaster is for sharpening, use it as a hone but without as much pressure as you can put on a hone.

Is the device one of those that hold on the spine and you roll it along with the knife over a hone?, it should work fine if you always set it the same every time you use it and you get the knack of how to sharpen the belly and tip, newer systems for keeping the angle seem to be better so those aren't made any more.
