Some doubts about DoDo

Hi all,
as already posted I have some doubts about buying a DoDo, I hope this is the right forum to address them.

First, I'm from Italy, I'll be in AZ (Chandler) on July and I plan to buy there my Dodo; here come the questions:
- Is the black handle DoDo a limited edition or I can easily find it?
- Asking the shop clerk to remove the clip that I don't plan to use, the knife could be somehow damaged (this is maybe a silly question, but I don't really know the inside of this knife) ?
- It seems that the websites where I found the DoDo offer a way lower price than the official one.. could I find a similar price in street shops?
- Any "customer hints" about shops near Chandler?

Thanks indeed for your kind attention, best regards
Erminio

Hi Erminio -

As far as I know, the Black Dodo is fairly easy to find in stock. It is less common than the Blue one and is not in the "official" 2004 catalog, but I don't think it is actually a "limited edition" type of situation - just a newer version of the knife. (If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me!)

You can easily remove the clip yourself if you have two little 3/32" allen (hex) wrenches. (One for the screw head on each side of the knife. After you've removed the clip, you will want to leave the screws in and tighten them back up since they provide structural support for the "tail" of the knife. This will definitely not damage anything or void your warranty. The replacement clip / screws are available from Spyderco as a user-replacable kit, so I don't think they mind if you take the clip off.

I will leave the "shop hints" to someone who actually lives in Arizona, but in my experience, the web dealers are typically MUCH cheaper than street shops, at least in Colorado. Perhaps there are some good shops where you're going though.

The "official" Spyderco web site sells their knives at full catalog retail price (unless they are discontinued closeouts) so that they will not compete with their resellers unfairly.

Hope this info helps, and enjoy your trip and the Dodo! It's a great knife!

Hi Timlara,

thanks for the kind answer; maybe I could buy the DoDo by web and ask to ship it to a friend's address in AZ.. in this case, any hints about a good web shop?

Best regards
Erminio

Hi Erminio -

I think that buying via web and having the knife shipped to your friend in AZ is an excellent idea. Most online dealers in the USA will not ship overseas, but since you are coming to visit, that would be a perfect opportunity.

I'm not quite sure about the policies of this forum with regard to linking to retailers, but my personal favorite dealer is New Graham Knives. ( http://www.newgraham.com ) They are extremely nice people and have excellent prices and service.

(This is not to say there are not plenty of other fine dealers -- I have just used New Graham most often and been very satisfied. See also: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=buy+spyderco+knives+online&btnG=Search )

Take care,
Tim
