Some Emerson Texture Possibilities

Recovering from a severe bout of this flu going around. I've had the flu numerous times in my life... but never did the flu almost have me...! This new stuff is a killer... literally!

Anyway... really low energy levels have me sitting in front of the computer rather than standing at the CNC machine... so I've been filling time by designing some new stuff.

I played with some possible textures using a cross and a shamrock. My head feels as if it is full of cotton so these attempts may fail to find an audience... it does pass some time though...

Th first is a repetitive negative cross carving...

This is the same cross but is the positive version...

Lastly... also an obvious design of repetitive shamrocks... but maybe not all that masculine...???

That's all the energy I have for now...

I dig the positive version of the cross, and the shamrock as well. Actually I'm thinking the positive cross with a faux bolster (left in the peel ply texture).

Hello Boomer

I am new to this forum and do not know how to message you so I emailed you, if you could get back to me at your earliest convenience that would awesome

Thank you
James

OK... I rehashed some ideas I didn't incorporate the first go around and machined another set of inlaid scales with a shield/cross and a black shamrock that I think works.

This is a set for the back spacer model and I do have that model knife on hand... I'll mount and shoot some pics in the next day or two.

I'm also a member of the USUAL SUSPECTS NETWORK (USN) and I've been posting this same thread over there... however it was brought up that using the Order of the Black Shamrock as a reference, use of the OBS crest or use of the OBS logo was infringement of copyright. Because of that... I have edited the thread title and eliminated any image that violated that. My work product will NOT make use of the words... Order of the Black Shamrock... nor will they use the OBS crest or OBS logo.

I have emailed images of my work to Emerson Knives inquiring if I was infringing upon their copyrights with the use of a shamrock that happens to be black G10 and use of the shield/cross as inlaid design. No word as yet.

My thread on USN has been locked by the MOD so I may no longer post or even edit previous posts until Emerson Knives replies to my inquiry... assuming that they will respond.

Having said that and moving forward... I ported the design over to the Mini CQC-8 Horseman... render in OD green and earth brown...

I had these red CQC-7 standoff scales in another thread... calling them Templar scales... but I added an inlaid shamrock to the clip side scale this morning. So I'll post the new rendition here...

Had an idea to add an inlaid carbon fiber shamrock to some stock CQC-7 scales. The render might have more contrast than the actual product... it's subtle... but might pop with certain light angles. We shall see tomorrow...

The carbon fiber shamrocks in the stock peel ply scales are rather stealthy until you get the reflected light angle just right...

I inlaid a stealth shamrock in a set of stock CQC-7 standoff scales and in a set of CQC-7 back spacer scales...

The emails sent to Emerson Knives attempting to clarify some design element copyright for inclusion in my CNC machining work product have gone unanswered.

I gave it a shot. So... if I’m to move forward I must rely solely on previously posted material that address this issue. I did discover this... a 2010 Christmas posting from Ernest Emerson… it reads as follows…

Dear Members,

Merry Christmas to all of you.

I don't want to curb anyones enthusiasm except that I must state that there seems to be several "projects" in the works concerning the use of the Black Shamrock Coat of Arms and the OBS logos.

The use of the OBS logo is granted for personal use and personal use only. I will state that without granted permission by me the use of the logo, badge, or coat of arms is not to be used for projects by either custom or commercial entities for profit or no profit. Any projects such as coins, rings, pens and such can not be produced in multiples for members for sale or for free. This is to protect the integrity of the symbols and badges of the order. Now, please do not bombard me with emails asking if you can get it embroidered on your jacket or the logo painted on your helmet or the tattoo on your arm. As I have stated before. Permission for the use of the logo is given for personal use only. Any engagement of commercial or custom entities in producing multiples is not ok. Further, there are a number of projects that we are in the midst of and it is not acceptable for instance for someone to "make challenge coins" when we may have spent money and considerable time already in designing and working on the same project.

Again, I do not want to curb enthusiasm or pride in the Order but there is no permission granted for any projects other than ones that I have already granted. All of the insignias, logos and symbols are copyrighted and protected. We have a lot of things planned and are busy with several ideas and projects. I believe they shall meet your wishes. Please be patient.

Best Regards,

Ernest R. Emerson

Using the above as my compass for design element inclusion/exclusion… I will need to avoid the use of the copyrighted Black Shamrock Coat of Arms and the OBS logo. I will also avoid the use of any language relating to the Order.

I have pulled and eliminated several designs that I recently worked up in CAD as straying too close to the Emerson copyrighted coat of arms and logo... however... when taken individually... two element/images that I have incorporated into my work product remain. These are public domain elements… crosses and shamrocks. As public domain they cannot be copyrighted.

Your designs and execution are really professional. I wonder if EKI should do some collaborations with you. I think it would be beneficial and profitable for both parties.
