Some Field Gear

Here are a few pics of some of my field gear that I carry when I'm out "woods-runnin." I've had the Ruger Mk II Stainless pistol since 1993...it was a retirement gift from a fellow Special Operations aviator and friend. I installed a serrated ramp front sight and a low-profile adjustable rear sight on it, as well as a set of Hogue wrap-around rubber grips. It's had thousands of rounds fired through it and it is as accurate as ever! The knife is a Bryan Breeden 4" Pathfinder that I modified. I rounded off anything resembling a sharp edge on the handle, and, after using it a while, I reprofiled the blade from its original "humpback" appearance to more of a drop-point. I truly like it and it's my favorite fixed blade for the field (thanks, Bryan!). The SAK is a "Scibeer"-modified Vic Farmer, with scissors installed. The folder is a Buck 500 with maroon micarta scales (its carried in a leather pouch I purchased at Big Bend Saddlery in Alpine, Texas). I carry and use other gear, but these are some of my favorites...and very handy to have along out in the weeds!

Ron, you're a man after my own heart. Just add a GB light forest ax and a packable shovel. It's a beautiful thing.

Good looking group there! Rugers are the best made 22's out there (both pistols and rifles) IMO. I am particularly fond of my Remington Nylon 66...but would really love a set of rugers (a pistol like yours and a 10/22) so i could retire the 66....had it for a LONG time

I do have a packable shovel and a good, light axe that come along, if I need them. I also own two 10/22's...a 1967 model and a newer Compact model. Can't beat 'em for reliability!

great gear, I use my buck 500 everyday, and the breeden pathfinder is a helluva blade.........I like that ruger also!!!!

Nice set up. Beautiful knife and great pistol with a lot of sentimental value...Have you ever considered upgrading your holster which was presented to you with honor with an equally honorable molded/fitted leather holster like your knife has?

Not being critical but I'm curious why your knife gets a molded leather sheath and your sentimental handgun presented to you from a friend doesn't get something on par with your knife?

Great set up! I just went the Buckmark route, but the Ruger Mk series are just beautiful pieces and that stainless one is a beauty! You definitely can't go wrong with a Breeden blade:D

Thanks for sharing!

Quirt,

The knife sheath was purchased before I ever got my Pathfinder. I picked it up from a friend at the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Associatioon Spring Shoot a few years back...the Pathfinder fit in the sheath, and I liked it better than the excellent sheath Bryan supplied with the knife, so it has a new "home." As to the holster, the Uncle Mike's #5 fits my Mk. II perfectly, carries it in a high position on my belt, and protects my pistol when carried. Maybe someday I will get a leather holster for it, but, for now, practicality wins out...a holdover from my Special Operations/JSOC/SOCSOUTH/SOCCENT days, I guess!

ROCK6, and everyone, thanks for the kind comments!
